I am 27 and have 3 children. In March of 07 I had a laparoscopy to detect (and laser) endometriosis. At the time of the surgery, I had the Mirena implanted because 1, I needed birth control and 2, I was told it would stop the progress of the endo. This past 8 months has been anything but, fun. I've had cramping, spotting, bleeding, migraines, not to mention that my mood swings and emotional breakdowns have been so bad my husband can't deal with me and my Dr diagnosed me with bipolar 2 disorder and I really think it's all from the IUD. I've had depression before but, never, EVER this bad. I've called the Dr on several occasions and they always say something like, "one more month, everyone has such great luck, just try one more month". Tomorrow, I have an ultra sound to "check placement". I pray they just take this thing out once and for all.

I had many of the same symptoms that you have been experiencing. I have a post on here somewhere from Oct., but can't find it. Anyway, I had my Mirena in for only 2.5 months. I knew it was causing me problems from the day they put it in. My Dr.s also kept saying..."just give it another months". I felt like I was constantly PMSing, and also bled the majority of the 2.5 months that I had it in. I ended up getting an ultrasound that showed a cyst on my right ovary that was acting up since the insertion. I also had an abdominal ultrasound about 1 month after that to check my gall bladder for digestion issues, but nothing unusual was found.
Honestly, I felt some relief as soon as the Mirena was taken out. It only took about 30 seconds for it to come out once my Dr. started pulling on the strings...much easier than when it was going in. After 48 hours, physically, I felt more mobile and could breathe easier. I literally felt 6 months pregnant or more before. After 1 week, my husband even noticed that my abdomen area felt "softer". I felt thinner, but I really wasn't. I guess the bloated feeling just wasn't there anymore. I don't regret getting it removed at all. I'm glad that I tried the Mirena, but it is definitely not for everyone.

Just tell your Dr. TAKE THIS THING OUT! He can't go against your wishes! And if he won't go to someone else!! If you want this out there isn't anyone that can MAKE you keep it in. Remember its YOUR body! And you know your body better than any Dr. I hope everything works out for you.

I am getting mine taken out tomorrow, too! And it's my birthday tomorrow!! What a nice birthday present to myself. Give us an update on how you are feeling and I will do the same.
