I am male 37 years old. In June 2007, my blood test shows 249 total cholesterol. After that, I was taking super B-complex, fish and flax seeds pills. It went down to 213 total cholesterol (40 HDL, 136 LDL and TRI 176). And I asked my family doctor to give prescription for Zocor(I asked particular drug because I will get good discount rate at my employer's place). he gave me Zocor 20 mg. After taking 1-month medication I felt some inconvenience during sex . You don’t feel it normal. I can’t do much exercise and some times feel depressed. I usually do 1-hour exercise or any form of exercise (Yoga). After Two months I tested my blood cholesterol level. It shows now total cholesterol 181(LDL 93, HDL 42 and TRI 223). And also showed ALT and urine protein little elevated. Now I stopped medication for past two days, feeling better at day time but night I am having weird dreams and indigestion problem. I guess these are withdrawal symptoms. I would go for natural medication like regular exercise, diet (oat meal, high fiber content, less sugar, less white rice). No more Statin drugs. Any one have same problem?

I have been taking 40 mgs generic Zocor (simvastatin) for nearly a year now and have experienced dramatic decline in sex drive and sexual performance; my overall energy level has plummeted; I cannot concentrate for very long; I am dizzy and jittery all of the time; and I am suddenly very depressed despite having a really good life. My doctor warns against stopping the medication but am seriously seeking alternatives. I am a 36 year old male who never had any sexual, energy, concentration or depression problems before taking simvastatin.

I have taken off/on zocor and lipitor for 10yrs, have done a lot of research and work on this. If you are of Indian heritage, its highly likely you have genetic conditions that causes more cholesterol + triglycerides, as I do. A 20% change in results is a variation that I have seen within 2 days, without doing anything diffrernt. Stress is an important factor to look at. Yoga and meditation might help. But is probably not enough, I'd suggest a very low dose of statin, you have to experiment and find the balance for your body. But try to keep the LDL at 100 or below is now my goal. In the past I have broken the 10mg in two and just taken half the piece. Do be careful of statins, but also of high lipid results. You need to read a lot and expect to spend years of experimenting with your body, diets ( replace rice with barley and oats) and exercise. There is no one cure, no one silver bullet, I think you have to combine a bunch of things, and keep the statin very low. Oh another
thing, if you are dark complexion and from tropical climates, and now live in the west, please do a vitamin D test, I did because a white friend had low reading, and found mine was even worse. Apparently a lot of people have low VitD and the doctors are not giving warnigns about this. VItamin D is very important not just for bones, but in preventing different types of cancers.
