I am SOOOO glad I found this site. My daughter is 6 years old and has been on Zyrtec on and off since she was 18 months old. About two years ago we added in Singulair. Two weeks ago she was diagnosed with ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder and they want to start her on meds for that. I got to thinking about when all her behavior and academic problems started and it was shortly after we started the Singulair. Before the Singulair she was a brilliant, outgoing, well-behaved happy little girl. Now she has trouble remembering short and long term, trouble concentrating, extremely fidgety, impulsive, can't complete anything she starts, extreme persistent stomach pains, diarrhea, occasional vomiting, and extreme frustration. I stopped both the Zyrtec and Singulair 4 days ago and am now reconsidering any meds for ADHD. I am going to wait and see how she does without Zyrtec and Singulair in her system. I am excited to see if there is an improvement! I had no idea these two drugs were so dangerous!

Hi. I just read your post about your child's reaction to Singular. It sounds so similar to my 9 year old daughters symptoms. The doctors told me there are no side effects and it would be good to prevent her asthma (which was not severe) only when she gets a cold or flu. She has stomach aches everyday. SHe can't concentrate on her homework, had self control issues at school and terrible mood swings. She won't eat and has lost weight and is angry mostly at me a lot of the time. We took her off the Singular 4 days ago. SHe seems better and ate a little better yesterday. I was wondering what happened with your child after you took her off and how long it took to return to normal?? thanks E

I, too, have a daughter about to turn 7 who is on Singulair Chew Tabs, the new form of Zyrtec (called Xyzal), and Astelin Nasal Spray. She was recently diagnosed with ADHD. What happened with your daughter? Did she improve her concentration and mood? You can e-mail me at elcoconino@verizon.net. Thank you!

VERY concerned about the above stories....My six year old is the same story and just today 2/6/08 I confrenced with her teacher and it was suggested to me that I talk to our Doctor about ADD. She is a space cadet for the last year since being on singulair. I will send her to the bathroom to brush her teeth and 15 minutes later she will come out and I'll check her and NO brushed teeth and she'll just say- oh well I forgot. She also complains of headaches on a regular basis and nasea. I just thought these were from allergies.. I'm shocked to read all of this. I am so upset I never considered the connection.. NOT sure there is one for sure BUT today was her last day on singulair and I'm making an appt. with an allergist tomorrow. Concerned she may have withdrawl problems. Hoping of course this improves her behavior. Please feel free to e-mail me at amelioa@bellsouth.net. Curious to know if any of the children that have stopped singulair, and had ADD like systems- well if any improved. I heard it can take up to 2 weeks to be out of her system.
Hope all the best for your children. L. Amelio
