I am a 43 year old woman in excellent health. One year ago, I was diagnosed with HBP and put on 12.5 mg of Toprol. I had a serious reaction to a cold medication that I took one month later and my blood pressure skyrocketed. My doctor doubled my Toprol. Immediately I felt extreme chest tightness, pressure, panic attacks, anxiety, depression and severe headaches. Until this time in my life, I had never even taken aspirin. I cut my dosage back to 12.5 mg. and now wonder if the extreme anxiety and feeling of impending doom is coming from this drug. I never had any problems before going on this beta blocker. Now I do not even know if I need it at all. How long do the side effects last if I stop taking this terrible drug. I have an appointment with a cardiologist in one week for some answers.

I had a terrible bout of something in the summer- shakey, dizzy, nausea , feeling like I was going to die. Doctor put me on Atenolol 25mg and back on my choles. pill. Well, it has been 6 months, and I have never felt so horrible. Same symptoms again! Fatigue, weakness, and all of the above. I just had a ECG last week which should have been done in the beginning. I quit taking both drugs and I feel a my old self again. Both pills were lowering my blood pressure even more and If you read the side effects of both meds, its all the same symptoms! I think I had dehyration or low blood sugar this summer which rose the BP . But that wasn't even looked at. I am on the road to better health without the blocker but will continue to visit the doctor on any returns of my symptoms jsut in case.
