Hello I am SOOOOOO glad I have just read your entry, I also have epilepsy and my Dr. took me off Tegretol(was on that for 23 yrs no lnger effective) and gradually weaned me from tegretol to topamax and first 2 weeks I was on Topamax I noticed the side effects metalic taste, extremly tired, could not think of the words to say, weight loss,(21 lbs and still going) diarreah, and severre anxiety attacks. However my nuerologist sd " you need to see a psychologist topamax does not cause anxiety attacks" SO I got online and looked it up per the makers of topamax it is a common side effect i printed it and took it to his office and then he started unning test on me. nerve test, mri, l-spine, c-spine, tons of labs, and came to the conclution that I have possible neuopathy(caused by topamax i found out), carpal tunnel( i have no symptoms of that) COPD(my general dr told my he did not test for that), and Lupus ( because i had a high ANA lvl on a lab per gen dr could be arthritis) so I am still on this poison and waiting until after new years until I can see another neurologist then find out what to do from there. I am currently taking 100mg am and pm PLUS 500 mg of Keppra daily until I see this new dr I can not stop taking the topamax :<. i also have o take ativan to control the anxiety attacks i have on a daily basis.
