Hair loss! My hair was falling out by the handfuls after about 5 ...

Hair loss! My hair was falling out by the handfuls after about 5 months on Yasmin. It first I had no idea that it could be the BC, since I have never had any side-effects like that from any other kind. I stopped taking the pill immediately, but my hair still falls out! I've been off Yasmin and any other BC pill for over a year now, and my hair is still falling out! Help! My Dr. is completely ignorant and telling me that he's never heard of any side-effect like that. I also have really bad acne. I had thick hair and completely clear skin before I started this BC pill. What the heck is happening? I had all my hormone levels tested as well as thyroid, and those are fine. Any ideas? Anyone else having this problem? Anyone found a cure? What is going on, and how do I get my hair back?

oh my gosh! i know exactly how you feel! I have been on yasmin for a long time now. I think almost 2 years! They put me on yasmin because i was diagnosed with PCOS and insisted I take THIS birth control. I have been loosing my hair for quite a while but its getting to the point where it is completely noticable and i can't stand it anymore! I've also experienced a problem with acne, I'm 21 years old and I never had a problem with it during my teenage years! this is very odd...I hope there is some cure..if i figure it out i'll be sure to let you know!

Gosh, you're not the 1st person that I've heard has has their hair falling out on this BC; also, acne seems to be the attached side-effect. There is another health forum site, this is the link for it: http://www.healthboards.com/boards/archive/index.php/t-208745.html
I read so many women's posts about their hair falling out, it's scary. The most scary part is that a few (like me) have been off of that BC and a few years later their hair is STILL falling out! I don't know what to do anymore!! I had ALL possible tests done, and nothing weird came to light.
You said that you have PCOS. I just talked to a nurse yesterday about this same thing, because from what I've read, PCOS can have the same side-effects as I've had on Yasmin - hair loss (can be hair gain, excessive hair growth is what they called it, it depends on the person), acne/skin problems, weight gain, etc. I was told that in people wiht PCOS the male hormones show up out of whack.
I was told that my symptoms sound like a hormonal imbalance, but they can't tell me which hormone and how to fix it. I've been told that taking the opposite BC pill to Yasmin might help "shock" my system back into normal, but I'm aftraid to do that, since the reason why I wanted to try something different (Yasmin being the "different" BC, opposite to Ortho Cyclen) is because Ortho Cyclen completely shot my sex drive, and was causing depression side-effects.
So, what is there left to try?
I'm thinking of trying a natural progesterone cream - I got in touch with a naturepathic doctor and had my saliva tests done (those test hormone levels too), and my progesterone was showing low... So, maybe using that natural cream can help; that's what he recommended, anyway.
If you find something more out, please share...I as desperate as you are; this has been going on for 1.5 years, and every morning I think to my self - if I can only get through the styling of my hair (in my case the side-swept style is more like a comb-over...) the rest of the day will go OK...

hi,
i have a similar situation. i took yasmin for a total of 5 years, with a 3 month break about halfway through. it was during that break that my hair started thinning and has not let up really since. i've had to cut my hair short, style it differently---it has not been fun.
The conclusion i've come to is that BIRTH CONTROL PILLS ARE RISKY! if i can influence one woman out there not to try taking the pill, (or patch, or shot) i will know i've saved one woman alot of grief.
synthetic hormones are scary business, nothing to be taken lightly, it's absurd that they are treated so matter-of-factly.

Enough lecturing though. Please google yasminsurvivors and join the discussion group there for more support.
Word should be spread about the side effects of this pill. Doctors don't want to believe it, but it seems like there are plenty of women living a nightmare that are walking proof of the evils of this pill.

hi,
i am a german gril. so... sorry for my spelling mistakes ;o)
i take yasmin for nearly 6 years (i am 23 years old). it was half a year ago i noticed my hair getting thinner and thinner, especially the bangs. now it's the moment i could cry allt he time, because i cannot hide the hair loss anymore. i read about the bad sideeffects of yasmin in several german bulletin boards, too. it is horrible. so many women are affected. and it took a long time to put the puzzle together. mood swings, depression, migraine... ect. the doctors cannot find any somatic reasons for my hairloss. they say it is because of stress. hormones okay. but i am convinced, yasmin is the problem. i had a break of yasmin for 2 month and that was the time my hair got thin, even after further taking.

did anybody make experience after stopping yasmin. does the hair grow again or makes that the hairsituation worse?

i am looking forword getting some helpful answers.

ok i have the same problem as all of you except i didnt take yasmin....im 21 now, i noticed my hair thinning all over about 3 years ago especially in the shower and when i would brush it, ive always had thick hair and clear skin but my acne has been worse since my hair started thinning first thing someone told me to do was have my thyroid tested, it's working fine...then my protein levels, they are normal... i went to a dermatoligist and he gave me some topical solution but i didnt see any results...i dont know what could have caused this, but it is so frustrating. if anyone has any ideas...please let me know. thanks.
