Having read this forum for a while, I can say that it is reported that this combination has some unusual, extrodinary, and extremely serious interactions for some people even above and beyond that of either drug alone, or at least the lisinopril (which alone is pretty bad for some).
My doctor started me on Altace, which didn't work. He eventually prescribed the same thing that you're on (Lisinopril-HCTZ) which he described as "like Altace but with a diuretic". That worked.
I don't know why, but I was slow to realize that perhaps I only needed the diuretic (HCTZ is Hydrochlorothiazide). A little research found that blood pressure treatments usually start with a diuretic, and the "harder stuff" like ace inhibitors are added later if needed. I chatted with another doctor who says, while that is the normal path, it is not unusual for doctors to go straight to the Lisinopril-HCTZ because it provides "other benefits".
If you are going back to the doctor on Monday, you might see about trying diuretic-only first. That is a conversation I want to have with my doctor.
Good luck!
How did the combination make you feel and did you have any of the side effects? I’m going to call my doctor in the morning and see if I can start off on diuretic also. My BP is ranging from 150 – 160 / 80 – 86. After reading the comments on this site I have a real problem with taking that medication. Thanks for your comments.
Yes, I am currently on this and it works well in lowering your blood pressure. Just be sure you are taking potassium with it. The one side effect I have experienced from this is the unrelentless cough. I may go back to Drs and try something different.
i HAVE BEEN TAKING THIS MEDICINE FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY SIDE EFFECTS FROM IT. MAYBE I AM JUST ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES. I HOPE SO.
This registry is a place to share positive or negative side effects of using Lisinopril. If you directly experienced a side effect while using Lisinopril, then we encourage you to enter it here. Please note that entries here are the experiences of individual users, and in no way means that you or anyone else will experience the same side effect, since the same medication affects people in different ways. Please always contact your physician.
