I had the copper IUD a few years ago and didn't have any problems but the side effects were heavy bleeding and cramps.
As you have probably lerned by now, do you reading first. Obviously some people like it or they wouldn't make it, but here's what I learned when trying to find something that I could replace my Mirena with - The copper iud manufacturer does not list in its pamphlet, but the iud is only copper plated. meaning, there are other metals or whatever in the core. One person blogged that their allergist told them they were having a reaction to the nickel in the core of the iud that just happens to be present (albeit in small amounts) in the alloy core. Keep this in mind. If you notice, in most fashion jewelry, they have a "nickel free" line of products. That's because a pretty good percentage of the population is allergic to nickel. I bet you most ob/gyn's don't even know this. Be careful. :)
This registry is a place to share positive or negative side effects of using Mirena. If you directly experienced a side effect while using Mirena, then we encourage you to enter it here. Please note that entries here are the experiences of individual users, and in no way means that you or anyone else will experience the same side effect, since the same medication affects people in different ways. Please always contact your physician.
