I've been on 160 mg at night for most of this year. When my doctor switched me to a different anti-psychotic (Invega), I started having suicidal thoughts, so I went back on Geodon. I feel like I am happier and starting to do more things, but I have horrible physical side effects like brain zaps, energy running through my face and teeth, pins and needles in my eyes and on the tip of my tongue...It also gives me horrible insomnia. I have to take 25 mg of Ambien and 6 mg of Ativan at night just to get to bed! and then it makes me tired in the morning, so I take Provigil to stay awake during the day. I am confused as to what to do because I feel more sane and am becoming less preoccupied with myself daily, but these physical sensations are freaking me out!

No effect on BP except a marked increase in depression, Still have rapid mood swings, often 10-15 or more a day. Horrible insomnia.

do you get tingling in your hands/fingers? I just started about 4 weeks ago and am a little afraid. They tell me it's not for bi-polar but for dysthymia (whatever) I can't take it until about an hour before bed and then i wake groggy and unable to get going many mornings. Sleep has never been a problem for me but since you've been on this longer I'm worried about when these side effects for you came on and is this going to create more side effects and problems down the road?! peace - kdd72

My side effects have come and gone and then different ones have come and gone. When I first started taking geodon a year ago, i would grind my teeth a lot, but that went away. i also was sooo tired in the mornings for the first 10 months i was on geodon, but that went away too. now i can wake up fine. i can also sleep better than when i intially posted my first post. i only need 2 ambien to sleep now rather than 6 mg of ativan as well. i figured out that the pins and needles effect is called "facial paresthesia" and that came on for me about 8 months after taking it. i still have that and it's really annoying, but i'm not depressed or manic, so the more i've thought about it, i think it is worth taking geodon at least for me right now. i hope this helps.
