I am 59 years old and have had migraines since age 30. I am very thankful for this med. Yes, there are side effects, as with all medications. I take 100 mg daily in split dose at this time. I have taken for 3 months, have lost only 9 lbs., have mild taste changes, some intermittent sleep changes which are improving, and am so thrilled NOT to have my life altered almost daily with horrible headaches! Life is a give and take.....I am happy to give a little to have this wonderful relief!
oh....yes, I forgot to mention (lol).....I DO experience some off and on difficulty in "finding words" more often than I used to. While this is not uncommon post menopause, at least with me, it has become obviously more so since I have been taking Topamax. I work crossword puzzles, and have noticed just a bit of difference there also. I am retired, and so this is not a great concern. If I were still working, I can see that it could be, though not nearly to the degree that others have described.
This registry is a place to share positive or negative side effects of using Topamax. If you directly experienced a side effect while using Topamax, then we encourage you to enter it here. Please note that entries here are the experiences of individual users, and in no way means that you or anyone else will experience the same side effect, since the same medication affects people in different ways. Please always contact your physician.
