You need to be very careful about stopping any type of hormone too quickly. Your whole body reacts as a system. When your body does not produce the hormones it should, you need that replacement to stay balanced. Make sure you let the doctor know your concerns. The mood swings could be a sign that you need to adjust your dose up or down. If the mood swings are affecting your life, you could always look in to a light Antidepressant to help stabalize. It should be something you discuss with your doctor. Best of luck sweetie!!
I have no idea where you live, but I reccomend that you get in touch with The Cole Center For Healing in West Chester, Ohio, www.colecenter.com. The problem with synthroid is that it will never heal you. My understanding is that it contains one of the hormones and not all of them, which if memory serves me is 12. Most doctors do not prescribe real thyroid hormone, which comes from pigs because they do not understand enough about the condition of hypothyroidism. You have to monitored fairly closely while taking this medication as well. I don't think some doctors want the trouble. Anyway, you can't just stop taking the synthroid, you will get very sick. You have to be weaned from it just like if you were taking blood pressure medicine. So, don't ever stop taking it again - it is very dangerous. If you do not think you would be able to see Dr. Theodore Cole in Ohio, I suggest you find a GOOD osteopath in your area. He or she will be able to help you.
Whatever you do, you must have a good physician helping you and testing you until they have your thyroid levels at the right levels. Do not stop and start thyroid meds on your own. As your thyroid levels go up and down this can cause serious symptoms. You can become very nervous, can have weight concerns, can become truely depressed. If you are taking too much medication you can have serious insomnia.
i been on synthriod for 6 years, i had a lump on my right neck when i was 16, so I went to my doctor, i had my biopsy done, and they thought it was just goiter. Then i had a surgery to take my right thyriod out, and found out that it was malignant. So i had to go to another surgery to take the left thyriod out to make sure the cancer cells didnt spread. So after all that, i had radiation pill once, and was isolated for 3 days. And i been on different doses of synthroid, and im currently taking 112 mcg twice a day. I been bad taking medications, i hate the fact that i need to take it everyday, and in some instance i didnt care taking synthroid for a month. And yes i notice changes including, fatigue, weight gain, constipation and muscle cramps. thats the only signs i experience. i was playing around with my medication just to see what will i feel. But yeah, right now im taking my synthroid regularly and all i experience is hairloss, well i can find like 10 strands of hair or less when i take a shower. I never get depression from it. i just feel normal im 5'2 and my normal weight is 110lbs. i never gain more than 115lbs. but now im pregnant i gained 22 lbs. on my 5th month. and they check my thyriod every 2 months just to make sure everything is ok.
I have been taking Synthroid 150 mcg for several years now. I am 27 years old. This is the highest dose I have taken in all my years. I stopped taking it, on my own, which I know is bad. However, the reason I did it was because it made me really tired right after lunch at work and I can't afford to be lethargic at my busy job. It just didn't make me feel right and it gave me headaches. On the other hand, not taking it gives me bad side effects too. My headaches are worse, I feel up and down with my mood. I have muscle aches which I already have because of my Fibromyalgia and that's enough in itself. I had my thyroid checked and the doctor called to say my level was at a 17 and it should be a 5 or under. Whatever that means but all I know is there is quite a gap between 5 and 17, so that can't be good. The doc said to start taking my synthroid again right away. Since that day, I have just been taking it off and on. I'll take it for a few days, feel like crap at work from it and stop again. I am sick of this cycle. It is affecting my life negatively and things in my life are really looking up. I have to fix this and make it right. Any suggestions?
