I have been on synthroid for about 3 yrs. I am considered subclinical (can't find hypothyroidism with blood test- normal range). Grant it, the medicine took away the almost angina pain and loss of breath. However, my body seems to have deteriated structurally. I have tremendous lower back pain, that worsened. I have been in pain every day since. I starve, (veggies - then dinner). It's been very, very difficult. Always looking for help.I'm hoping that a natural hormone will change this, I know my husband will be glad; he won't have to hear me cry anymore.

Hello, you should look into taking a natural thryroid hormone. Synthroid will not heal you. You should find a GOOD D.O. in your area. If you are close, you should try the Cole Center for Healing in West Chester Ohio ( www.colecenter.com ). He deals with a lot of hypothyroid patients. I am one of them. I know one person that has been completely healed and two other people that are on the road to recovery like me. Blessings to you.

After reading a lot on the internet, especially the thyroid boards on HealthBoards, I am thinking the back pain and muscle pain are from the body's lack of T3. Synthroid is T4, and the claim is that one's own thyroid can make T3 from the T4. BUT-- I am in the same boat with you, terrible back, neck and shoulder pain and have been on synthroid for months. Dr just gave me T3 to add to my synthroid. T3 is available as Cytomel Rx. The other option is to take Armour, which is also prescription but is natural thyroid that includes both T4 and T3. Many people seem to do better on Armour. I am hoping to get just Armour from my endo when I see him this week.
There is a lot of info on the HealthBoards.com on thyroid . Also, MedHelp.com has helpful "Ask A Doctor" forum on thyroid.
