I am 17 and have been on ortho tri-cyclen lo for 2 years now I never really notice until I started having sex I wanted to do it for about the 1st 4 times than after that I never wanted sex, me and my bf had gone without sex for like 2months and every time he wants to do it I say I don't want to he says I never want to than it starts a huge fight, so we basically fight all the time. We have been together 11months yesterday. I don't know what to do I am really thinking its because of the pills, I get WAY moody, and I cry a lot. I'm always cranky and tired. I'm only 17!! I should want to have sex lots of sex not have no sex at all what is wrong with me? could if be the pills ? I have been on them for a long time now but I never really thought that it would be birth control to cause all of this.someone please reply.

I am 22 yrs old and have been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for about three years. I hardly EVER want to have sex anymore, I'm very VERY moody and get tired alot. I snap at my boyfriend and loved ones for no real reason, then I feel bad and cry about it later. I have been on birth control pills since I was 16. I was originally on Ortho Tri-Cyclen, then the doctor switched me to Yasmin about 2 years later, then I switched to Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo (I can't remember why I switched.) I know EXACTLY the problems you are having and I attribute them to the pill. Now, OTC Lo has three different hormone levels (hence: the three different colors) the pills you take when you are on your period are just sugar pills and contain no hormones. When your body gets different levels of hormones every week, it freaks your body out. I would suggest trying Yasmin (not Yaz - too many problems) since it is all one level of hormones and doesn't fluctuate like Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo. However, some people experience these same problems on Yasmin and other birth control pills also, so it just depends on how your body handles the hormones. I am going to go back to Yasmin and try that for a while... if that doesn't work, Im going to get rid of birth control pills altogether, and find a non-hormonal method of birth control. (ha ha - we'll see how that goes)

Hope this helped a little!

Madison

I have been on birth control since 16 I am now 22. I started with ortho-tricyclen then switched to ortho-tricyclen lo. The ortho lo was working pretty good for me, but over the past year or so my fiance has noticed, as well as my self, how moody and different I have been. a month ago I switched to desogen and I am even worse; to the point where i am scared how it has changed me and basically is ruining me and my fiance's once great relationship. I have to say to tell your boyfriend to please be understanding and stick it out with you because these birth control pills can be a real pain and really affect your personality. I am going to talk to my doctor about immediately getting off desogen and finding a pill that may not affect my moods and cause depression like ortho lo and desogen have caused. I suggest to do the same and keep looking for something that works for you.

I have had the same problems. I was 18 when I started taking birth control pills and noticed that my sex drive diminished and I moodier than ever. My anger was quick but my bf was very good about being understanding about the no sex drive. I am now 25 and have been off birth control for 1 year. I have problems of irregular period and facial acne. After half a year, my cycle is getting regular and my acne is lessening. I have noticed my sex drive has increased. So the birth control does affect you in that sense.

I, too, can attest to these side affects. I started taking Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo when I was 17 years old, and I am now 20. At first, I had a high sex drive and my boyfriend and I got along great. Now, I am still with the same guy (whom I love very much), but I now have no sex drive, am moody and irritated all the time, and I cry when I see some commercials because I'm so overly emotional.
I went to the doctor, and they recommended Desogen, but I can't start it yet because I just finished taking the hormone pills from my Ortho, so I'm waiting to see how Desogen will treat me.
After a month of Desogen, I have another appointment to see how it's going, so if it fails, does anyone recommend another pill that will rid me of this problem?!
