Has anyone else had problems wearing contact lenses with Yasmin? ...

Has anyone else had problems wearing contact lenses with Yasmin? I've been on it for about three years now -- about a year ago my eyes started completely rejecting my contact lenses. I'm at the point where I can't wear them anymore. I'm thinking of changing to a different medication to see if that helps, but I don't know if it's just my eyes, the Yasmin, or all birth control. I know there is a definite connection, I've done some research. Has anyone else experienced this side effect?

Yes, I have had this same problem. I realized that it does say on the prescription information that Yasmin can cause problems with contact lenses, it doesn't say why. So I think that it is a side effect of Yasmin specifically, and not all birth control pills. Prior to Yasmin I was on Monessa and had no problems with my contacts. I am considering switching brith control as well, but just filled another three-month prescription, so I will have to wait.

My eyesite has become very blurry and I can't focus very well, I read on another site http://www.createforum.com/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=1&mforum=yasminsideeffec sorry I don't have the exact link to the post, that one woman's eyeshape had completely been changed from round to a rugby shape.

I have been on Yasmin for two years and recently got contact lenses. They were very painful and stopped wearing them. I stopped using the birth control pill and tried my contacts one week later. I can wear them now with no problem.
I read that the birth control pill can can liquid retention in the cornea of the eye and change the shape of it, making it difficult to wear contact lenses. I read that this is due to the hormones in the birth control pill.

Thank Goodness for the Internet! Thanks for your posts

My problem hasn't been with contact lenses, but with eye twitching and i don't even want to begin on the "insane hormonal imbalance i've experienced. I have stopped and and i am happy to be "back to normal".
Other side effects i've experienced: not able to concentrate
very high strung, cranky, depressed, blurry vision, burning eyes.

I think I may try Nova Ring I read on another post that someone tried it and has no problems with her contacts now.
I know I had to be re-fitted for new contact (gas permeable) and that cost me over $400.00! It was because my corneas had changed shape and my contact were essentially laying flat on top of my eyes instead of on the shape of my eyes and actually scratched one of them. I don't know if it's just Yasmin or just birth control pills but I know it's the hormones in it.
Even after getting new contacts a year later I'm having the same problem, wearing my contacts are hell.

Has anyone switched birth control pills due to contact discomfort? If so, were your contacts more comfortable after the switch and what pill did you switch to?

My contacts are extremely uncomfortable and I am thinking about going off of the pill for a month and see if it makes a difference in the comfort level.

i've been on the generic Zovia birth control for about a year and a half now and have been unable to wear contacts for about half that time. when i do wear them it can only be for about five hours and my eyes are bloodshot and watery for the next few days. i've recently been thinking that it may have to do with the estrogen in the pill i'm taking so i'm switching to a progesterone only pill - it is less effective but well worth not wearing glasses every day! i'll let you all know if it solves the problem

I have a different problem. I just stopped taking Yasmin and now my contacts/eyes are dry. I have taken Yasmin for about 5 years without any eye problems. I stopped about a month ago and my eyes are dry and blurry. I just had an eye exam and the dr. said everything looked fine. Anyone else have this problem?

i think it has something to do with your tear glands...i had dry red itchy eyes and rarely wear my contacts and my optometrist told me my tear glands were clogged up ans she told me it was caused by my past pregnancy but it started when i restarted Yasmin so maybe it's cause by that...

the pill does fool your body into thinking it's pregnant.. so maybe it could give you the side effects a pregnancy does...
just a thought I'm no doctor lol

By the way Yasmin=BAD

NO to Yasmin!!!!

I've been on Yasmin for 5 years straight I find it impossible to wear contacts, they dry out and fall out of my eyes, as soon as I put them in.
My lens is -3 so wearing contacts is something I won't give up. Although I only wear them on weekends and use disposable ones. (dailies)

Has anyone changed there pill and not have this problem anymore. I really don't feel like changing my pill and having my body adapt again to a new birthday control pill!

Help!
