I had psychosis and the doctor prescribed Risperdal with lithium carbonate. It worked and stopped all the voices. Then all the side effects kicked in, constipation, trouble sleeping, restless (to the point that I can barely read a page of my work information at a time), losing my period, and headaches. I slowly tapered off the drugs for a couple of weeks, the headaches is not significant anymore and I wake up less frequently at night. I don't have racing thoughts nor strange voices nor moodiness or extremely mood swings. All I can say is, it is your body, do what you feel right. Also, I keep in my bag a bottle of Risperdal in case I started hearing things.

How long have you been on your meds? You're truly in for more of the same not being on them. You learn to work with the side effects, especially if the good aspects outweigh the bad. Starting and stopping your meds all by yourself is horrible but it's something I think we've all done, but in the long run we realize the only way to stay half-way sane is to take our meds. I wish you luck.
Peace, Steven
