There has been at least two documented cases of women having extremely high acid levels due to taking Xeloda. These high levels ultimately caused their deaths. All drugs cause side effects but death is not one listed in any of the literature that Roche presents with this drug. If you are taking this drug please make sure that your acid levels are checked regularly and if you know of someone who had the same complications from Xeloda please contact us.

My mom died on may 3 2008 as a result of taking xeloda for only one week. she was 89 but was out each day and ok. 2 wks prior she was with us eating dinner at a rest. Her doc wanted to try xeloda , in a wk she got acidosis severe diarhhea renal failure mouth sores the shakes dehyration . Her doc did not to hospitalize her because of possible infection.the next day mom was not good at all. I got her to the hospital. For 2 days she was on IV but not urinating she died the next day due to septis, diarhhea renal failure.THe doc said her electrolytes were sky high.I think the xeloda killed her.She could not rally after 2 doses a day of the xeloda

I found this website and have been on it off and on for the last few days. My father passed away July 9,2008(maybe you saw my posting) and my mother just picked up the death certificate and we were somewhat surprised at what the cause of death was. They listed as #1. Hyperkalemia (which after researching is high potassium from renal failure I am guessing?) #2 Metabolic acidosis (which after researching it is too much acid in the body) and #3 widespread colon cancer (which the doctor never said once that it was widespread and in fact the chemo was helping reduce it). Before taking chemo, my father never had these problems, and what good does the blood tests do if it can't warn a person of this? I guess one of my questions is "how do they test for acid levels?". My Mom and I are thinking about contacting a lawyer for this because when my dad had his first bout with colon cancer with mets to the liver in 1999, he came through that good, but the doctor never told him to come back for check ups to make sure it didn't return (which it always does) and I feel if he would have went back for check ups and scans, he would still be here with us because we could have caught it early and stayed on top of it. Also, my dad was doing good (beside diarrhea) up until two weeks before his death. I don't feel the doctor was aggressive enough about my dad's mouth sores. He didn't even look in his mouth to see how bad they were. He just told him to drink Ensure, because I told him he couldn't eat. Anyway, sorry I am going on and on, it is still very fresh for me and I am so bitter about my father's death. If you have any information for me please share it, my mom and I would appreciate it so much. Also, would you have any idea where to look for a lawyer that would handle something like this? Thank you so much for any information you can provide! Take Care and God Bless
