I have had Mirena since July. I went through a lot of life stress this past fall (moving to a new city after 10 years, being separated from my bf during this time for two months, etc) but I really think Mirena is not right for me. I am bloated all the time, my periods are erratic, I am more moody than usual and I have NO sex drive. Worst of all, I think I'm pregnant ALL THE TIME. I just don't trust this thing and I literally drive my man nuts worrying about being pregnant. I also have developed some pimples (like on my back, upper arms, etc) that I never had a problem with before! I have gained a few pounds as well. I feel like a putz spending all this money but I really want it out. I feel like I should "give it more time" but really, what is the point?

I had to reply to this post because your experience sounds just like the start of mine. I also thought I was pregnant ALL THE TIME! Nausea, heartburn, bloated, tired, allof the stuff I experienced in the first trimester of all 3 of my pregnancies. I must have taken 20 preg tests after having my mirena inserted. My husband was like"we can't get pregnant! you have the iud!" it was making him nuts. After this going on for a few months, I started to get anxiety really bad. I started getting heart palpitations and thought I was going to have a heart attack. It was very scary. I asked my dr and of course he said no, the mirena is localized. After a bad anxiety attack, I went to the dr's office again, and she said that I had anxiety problems, not from the mirena, put me on anti-anxiety meds, and that was it. I didn't want to take them because I knew it was from the mirena.
A few days before my annual gyn exam, I called the office and told them I needed this thing out asap, and couldn't wait for the exam. She took it out that day. It took about 2 seconds, she didn't even need to put the speculum in, and it didn't hurt at all. It's been about 5 weeks and The side effects are going away one by one. I lost 8.5 pounds instantly (I'm woking on the rest) but, I am still breaking out. I think that's just from my horomones regulating. Trust me, "wasting"the money you spent having it put in is well worth having your old self back!!!!

I had my Mirena put in on Nov 16th 2007 and taken out yesterday. It was ok at first, what I expected anyway. Until two weeks ago I started to feel pregnant. After $100 on pregnancy tests and driving my husband nuts I had taken out. I still feel "prego". Noticed lots of hair loss and I have always had thick hair. So disturbed that I paid somone to put this monster in me and to make me sick. The docs make you feel crazy like it is all in your head but its not.

I know how you feel. I have had the mirena in for 3 years and I always think I am pregnant. I grab a pregnancy test every couple months just to make sure. I am thinking about getting it out but don't know what birth control to get on. I don't like the idea of changing birth control often. It can't be good for a person.
I know I have gain some pounds! How much............not sure. I just hate the feeling of being pregnant all the time. My stomach looks pudgy but maybe its my imagination.
