I am a 50 year old female and started taking 10 mg of Lisinopril about 2 months ago for HBP. I also take Lovastatin with no problems for about 2 years. Within a few weeks, I starting having the dry, hacking cough along with the tickle in the throat. I also starting itching over various parts of my body. I starting urinating a lot especially at night. Between the coughing and going to the bathroom, I was not getting much sleep. I was tired all the time and was not able to concentrate very well. A few weeks ago, I noticed my skin was getting little red spots. It finally dawned on me that all these symptoms occurred after I started taking the Lisinopril! I went online and found this site. I can't believe they would put a drug like this on the market! I quit taking the medicine about 4 days ago and my cough is starting to decrease, my itching is almost gone and I am not urinating as much. I have an appointment with my doctor in a few days and will tell him that I will NOT be taking this medicine anymore. I will find another way to decrease my blood pressure without medicine. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS DRUG!!!!!

Ms. Please don't think this is a terrible drug. This side effect of the cough does not affect everyone. ACE inhibitors such as lisinipril is being found to be very helpful for not only blood pressure but also as a protectant against kidney damage, congestive heart failure, and a repeat heart attack for those patients who have had a heart attack. The more I read about this drug, the better I believe it is. I am sorry it did not work for you. There are many other blood pressure medicines you can try. I'm sure one will work for you.

I quit the drug about 4 days ago. I had been taking it for a year and suffered with this throat, cough, tickle and irritation to a point that stops my speech and waters my eyes problem since the start. My Doctor thought is was sinus issues and gave me a number of medications as each one failed to resolve the problem. I even went to an ENT, had my uvula removed as he thought that was the problem (too long) and still no relief. He scoped me I saw no problem with my throat or voice box, just said it was a sinus condition, which I never had before. I never connected my problem with this drug until I read the posts here. I also read here that it takes as long as a month to get the drug out of your system. I will keep you posted as to my progress.

I am 71 and was prescribed lisinopril. After 3 weeks of 5 mg one pill a day i developed red spots all over my body. These are called cherry anginomas and there is nothing you can do for them. I developed a hacking cough and still have it 6 months later. I told my doctor I was quitting, and quit the doctor as well. You can help get this drug off the market by filing out a form from the Food 7 Drug Administration, National Center for Toxicological Research. Go on line.
This medicine is manufactured in a plant in India and uses snake venom.

Well hallelujah - now you have filled in the blanks.. I have been taking lisinopril for 2 months for high BP. 10mg at first then 20mg per day. I have a dry hacking cough that everyone comments "you've got to get that fixed" . I never thought it could be the med.. The Dr put me on antibiotics which finished after 5 days by still the hack. I'm on a bag of Halls and 5 cup of warm tea regiment now. I think it time I revisit the Lisinopril and see if there is an alternative.

55 yr old male 6'2" 290lbs been on lisinopril for about 2 years. Don't seem to have any problems unless sore joints and red dots on my skin are side effects. Red dots seem to appear as a little pimple with a white head on them. Takes a couple of days for the white head to go away or I scratch it off (these are small things). Then as they settle down a small red dot will remain. Some of these seem to grow over time and welp up a little to where they are raised on the skin. Most are symetrical and shiney red bumps. Doctor says they are hereditary and not dangerous. My dad has a few but I'm really being covered up with them. Thinking about going to a dermatologist. Any suggestions?

I have been on Lisinopril for about 8 months. The cough went away in about 3 months. I have a rash and some itching as others described, on my lower legs and ankles. I have some minor increased watering of the eyes. Urination has increased somewhat. My blood pressure went from around 150/90 to 117/78 and I remain very satisfied with that. I can put up with the side effects for the excellent BP results. I will remain on the drug until something better comes along. Tell your doctor what you have read here, and change doctors if they don't listen and keep treating symptoms without understanding the causes.

I started taking the drug in April and in June, I can't get a deep breath when I need it...my pulmonary doc said the ace inhibitor in that drug is restricting the enzymes in my throat and will take 6 weeks for the drug to get out of my system.
