I just had my Mirena put in yesterday1-17-08. It was very painful, the doctor had to dilate me 4 times, because she said I am small. Then she had trouble putting it in because of my retroverted uterus. about 30 minutes after I left I had cramps and my entire left leg hurt bad. My toes tingled, and my whole leg was in pain all night, today it has been off and on. Also I have noticed being short of breath. I am already regretting this decision. I have had no energy which is odd for me. I can feel the Mirena in there, I am worried that it will hurt me because I am smaller than average (4'11" and 104 lbs.) my husband and I have a 14 year old son and don't want anymore kids, but condoms are driving us crazy and it scares me because I am 35 and do NOT want to have a baby at my age. So I thought this would be perfect while we decide on something more permanent. I am going to give it one more week and If I don't feel any better it is coming out!!! I am so glad I found this site, because the doc already told me that my leg pain has nothing to do with the iud even though it started right after I got the iud, she told me to go to a chiropractor or my family doc, because she said it had to be something else. I don't believe her.

No, please don't believe that doctor. It's the Mirena, I've had the same! Take care,

Claudia

My name is Kris. I'm on the second go round for having the mirena inserted. I too went through the same kind of pain the first time around. It hurt so bad the first time, I though I was going to throw up from the pain. I was feeling really hot like a heater had been turned on full blast and I started feeling tingles in my hands and then they balled up into a fist and I couldn't unball them for a few minutes. The tingles are due to shock. Your body doesn't recognize what is going on. You may go through shock for a day after the mirena is inserted. I felt really bad cramps for a couple of days. The mirena had to be taken out 9 days after it was inserted because it was close to perforating my uterus and I had to go to the ER. I went back to my gyno on my next cycle and got it placed in again and told my doc that this is the last time I'm trying it. My husband and I have no children and do not want any for a while but I can't keep track of my birth control pills so the mirena was the best idea to me and still is. The second time around wasn't so bad and my doc got it in faster than the first time. I still felt the same amount of pain but it wasn't so bad because I knew what to expect. I had to be dilated 6 times the first time because I am small as well and I have no children. I am glad I went back a second time. It will take a while to get used to. I'm paranoid that the mirena will come out but I have checked it several times and I know that it's in place but I am still scared. If need be, I just might have it done a third and final time if it doesn't work out this time. I love the mirena and I know it's a good choice for me. I hope you will give it a try and just remember to relax. And yes I know, easier said than done.
