I've only been on Lamictal for about 3 weeks now. I started taking it the day after Christmas. I take 25MG twice a day, with .5MG of Klonopin 3 times a day. I have been diagnosed as Bi Polar II, with very deep bouts of depression and suicidal thoughts. So far the Lamictal has been working for me. I have noticed that if I don't take it in the morning when I am supposed to, I let little things get to me. But as soon as I remember to take it, I feel better in a short amount of time; but that could also be the Klonopin. Anyway, the only side-effect I've noticed so far is that I started my period a week and a half early, and I have been on it for 2 1/2 weeks now. And it keeps getting heavier and that is very annoying. Are any other females having period issues? Or is it just me? I can't find any other sides that list heavy bleeding or early periods as a side-effect.

I am on week three of the Lamictal trial pack and I also started my period two weeks early (early in week 2 of the trial pack). My period was slightly lighter than usual and it lasted about half as long. When I began week 3, I began spotting. Doctor said he'd never heard of this side effect and was going to take me off of the meds, but since it's the only side effect I have, I asked him to keep me on it and see what happens. I am taking Lamictal with 400 mg of Wellbutrin. Has your doc said anything to you about this side effect?

I was only on Lamictal (once a day 12.5 mg) for 5 days when I got my period 2 weeks early.

I've been on Lamictal for 6 months and I don't know why it never occurred to me that the differences in my period might be linked to Lamictal. I've been having erratic, heavy and painful periods for at least several months. My breasts also seem extra sensitive all the time like they usually felt before my period. For those of you who just began taking Lamictal, watch for a change in your dreams. I began my search tonight to find others who are suffering with really bad dreams. I have found some postings about that. When we are taking more than one drug it is difficult to figure out what is causing what.

Lamictal and women:
BE CAREFUL ABOUT lamictal and birth control. What I was unaware of was the bad interaction. So was the OBGYN that prescribed me birth control (yasmin)..as well and the pharm and my psychiatrist.
Here is what happens: The bc reduces the efficacy of the lamictal by about 50% I believe. That is substantial. After years of not having to miss work..I had to miss a week. I was essentially going through lamictal withdrawal..and even having minor seizures. I couldn't leave the house..it was a WRECK.
Do any women have experience with lamictal and birth control? How about lamictal and pregnancy???

I didn't even think about that. I am taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen. I haven't noticed any changes yet but I just got to my 100mg a day. If I notice any other changes, I will post them here. But I am definitely going to keep a close eye on how Lamictal interacts with my other meds. Thank you!

Lamictal definitely made me have some really bad nightmares-- they seemed to be about ordinary things that caused me a lot of anxiety, running into ex boyfriends and stuff like that, rather than a giant fire-breathing dragon-- but I found that these went away after about a month or so, along with the sleeplessness that I had initially experienced. I'm also experiencing irregular periods that last about 2 weeks or so. I'm going to talk to my doctor, but it makes me feel a little better to know that I'm not alone in experiencing this curiously unlisted side effect.
