Get a second opinion! No one should do a surgery unless they are a SURGEON!
I am so sorry you have had to go through all of this - it is horrible! I wish you the best of luck!
I am an RN who just had my Mirena taken out. PLEASE do not let your MD take this thing out. Get another opinion, from someone who has done this type of surgery or go see a specialist who does lap surgeries all the time. You will probably have a big fight with your insurance company about all this, but if this side effect was not described to you upon insertion I do not think you should have to pay for any of this. Unfortunately, if you use someone other than the MD that put it in, you may have to pay what your insurance requires. But again.....if your MD has never done this...I would not let her practice on you. I have seen many lap surgeries go right, and many go wrong. the MD must know what they are doing. Email me if you have any further questions. I have had my mirena out for 4 days and already see a marked improvement!
DO NOT LET YOUR MD TAKE IT OUT--I just went through the same thing--My GP placed it Dec 19th --I went to check the strings on Dec 30th --they weren't there--Dr tried to find them in the office no luck--sent to the hospital for an X-ray (Jan 9th)--IT was in my body --not in my uterus--My doctor has never performed a surgery and said he flat out wouldn't do it --so he refered me to an OB GYN who has done them--Jan 11th the New Dr confirmed where it was --and did a LAP--I have contacted the hospital and my insurance and the patient advocate for the region--Patient advacate said they would be paying any and all expences associated with the insertion and removable of the device--
I feel for you I really do --cause I too thought this was going to be a fast thing and did it with my two children in tow--I even had to breast feed my baby before I went under and then breast feed him when i got out cuase i had no time to introduce him to a bottle to give him breast milk that I have frozen--Poor little baby!!
My surgery was done as a day surgery--so you shouldn't have to stay in the hospital at all--mine was done in a clinic--I went in for surgery at noon and was out by 3--Got a cheeseburger and milkshake and went home and spent three days in bed--the pain from the lap surgery(the air that they put in your abdomen --was worse than the three incisions to take out the IUD)
I wish you the best of luck--
OH also I wouldn't worry about having to fight with an insurance company about this procedure--CAN YOU SAY EXPENSIVE LAWSUIT--they would want to avoid this and bad press at all costs--that's why they have malpratice insurance. THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT YOU ARE A VICTIM --don't let them tell you otherwise--get notes on everything and have everybody confirm everything they say in writing--start keeping documentation and also contact the BAYER company at 1-888-842-2937--option one --i think and then option 3--they may be willing to reimburse you for the cost of your IUD and you can report all your problems so this doesn't happen to anybody else--
GOOD LUCK DARLING!!
ALSO if you are breastfeeding the doctor recommended the mini pill for me for back up for now until we can decide what else to do for birthcontrol!!
DO NOT LET YOUR MD DO THIS SURGERY! Be sure to get another opinion and consult a lawyer ASAP! Bayer should be the ones to pay for anything and everything related to this horrible situation. Not to mention a heafty penalty for pain and suffering! No one should have to suffer through this. I'm so sorry to hear you are going through this. You should not have to go through this when you should be enjoying your beautiful babies.
I got the Mirena in June of 07, have really only suffered from severe breast tenderness and spotting, but now I'm terrified and extremely worried about something going wrong with it now. This is after being on the depo shot since 1994. Which worked so well I didn't want to get off of it, but was given no choice but to find something other than depo. Two of three daughters were conceived on the pill and within a three year span, so those weren't even in condsideration. I'm 38 with my youngest being 17 and getting ready to graduate high school, pregnancy now is NOT an option, my oldest is getting married soon and will be giving me grandbabies. It's no longer my time for tot's, it's theirs and I'd never want to take away from their joy of it. I'd rather take calcuim and vit. D for the rest of my life than deal with anything even close to this!
Best of luck sweetie, I pray for you that all will be well and you can get back to where you and your family need you to be.
