I have been on Toprol XL for 4 years - was on 50MG - Dr. tried other meds for a while (bad side effects) - so put me back on 25MG of Toprol until we can figure out something else. When I was off the Toprol I lost 16 pounds!!!! I have not gained any back being on a lower dosage. I think it is causing me breathing problems and pain and cramping in my legs - any one else having this? How should you wean off? Thanks!

I have been on Toprol and the generic form for several years. I also see an alternative medicine doctor who has me on lots of fish oil (2 capsules 3 times a day, and each capsule has over 200 mg EPA and almost 150 DHA). My blood pressure is lower than it has been in 20 years, but it took several months of the fish oil to do this. Last week I noticed breathing problems. Saw my regular MD and have had a chest xray and pulmonary function tests, all are fine. So...I started researching the Toprol, as it's the only medicine I'm taking, and was surprised to see all the "breathing problems" with this medication, when "officially" only 1% of those taking it are supposedly affected. I was on 50 mg, but am on my second day of 25 mg. I am monitoring my BP frequently and so far, it's fine. I strongly recommend taking fish oil to help lower your BP and hopefully get off the medication. I have to remind myself to be vigilant with the Omega 3, as it doesn't work as quickly to lower the pressure if you stop taking it. Good luck.

Hi,
I had been on Toprol 25mg for 3 years. I did not know until recently it was what caused my extream hair loss. Horrible for a woman! I recently started having VERY sore joints, I researched the side effects and saw where my problems were coming from. I quit taking it cold turkey a week ago, so far no problems. I hope my hair will return. PLEASE if anyone has done the same let us know your results. Thanks
