Hi all! I just began taking YAZ two weeks ago and things were fine up until two days ago. I started experiencing itching on several parts of my boy an last night, realized I had hives on my waist at my back, near my underarms and have serious itching all over the rest of my body including the palms of my hands. Please, please, please if anyone reads this an has had similar side effects, please let me know. Furthermore, I did not take the pill last night as I knew this could be the only thing causing these issues. Does anyone know the reprecution of stopping the pill mid month? Please let me know and thanks for your help!

Hi I have been taking yasmin for about 8 months now and 2 months into it i experienced simmilar effects. I experienced itiching on my face and noticed red bumps in my cheeks and neck, my mum told me those were hives. I still am on the pill the hives come and go as they please, more side effects were very very dry patches if skin, bloating, mood swings, hot and cold flushes (these are recent). I tried any other pill and i am afafraid to incase that has worse side effects.

Hi. I just read your posting today.. and let me tell you.. I have suffered the same same same issue. I started taking Yasmin about july of 2007.. i got married in sept of 07 and went on a honeymoon. i thought i was getting bit by weird bugs cuz i noticed insect bite looking things on my legs. up until that point, i thought nothing of it cuz it didnt really itch or bother me that much.. although the bumps would go away!! around end of nov. 2007 the itching started and it was so bad to the point that i had scratch marks all over my legs and i would find blood on my bed sheets (from the unconscious scratching i did in my sleep). i would always cry at night cuz it was drive me crazy. i went to a dermatologist and he just gave me some anti itch cream which did NOT help me AT ALL! so i went back and he did a biopsy and the result came out to be "hypersensitivity to medication" I dont have any allergies against any drugs and the only medication i can think of that i've been on since then is yasmin. he prescribed me more medicine (prednisone) which helped with the itching. but i stopped taking it cuz it's not good to take it for a prolonged period of time. now i have little itchy bumps all over my back, waist, neck, thighes, near my underarms, stomach, chest... pretty much every where except for my face. and i think it's a matter of time that it spreads to my face. i was told that it takes MINIMUM of 3 months for it to be completely out of your system. it's almost been 2 months since i've been off of it.. but i still show no signs of improvement. so.. if this sounds like anything you're experiencing.. i recommend that you stop taking the pills.. if you haven't done so already.. before it gets worse!!!!

Wow!
Thanks to you all, I do believe I have figured out my daughter strange rash!
My daughter started birth control pills at age 16. She was put on the Ortho Tri cyclen. She took that for a year and all was fine. Last month it was time for her yearly exam and she was curious to try the Yaz pill. Some of her friends had been taking it and were happy with the results. Apparently it is suppose to help with acne, bloating, moodiness and make your periods shorter! Well of course this sounds wonderful, very wonderful to a 17 year old! She told her gyno. that she would like to try it, so she started it last month.
Well, a few weeks ago, Track & Field started at school, which my daughter has participated in for the last three years. The weather has been sunny and springlike her in Michigan, so the students have been spending a lot of practice outside and the track meets are now starting as well. This is when the "strange" rash started. It seems like everytime my daughter would be out in the sun, the rash would flare up!
It started on the backs of her hands.
(she has never gotten a rash from the sun before)
The rash are several small hives that itch very very bad!
She has also been getting the rash on her neck and behind her knees.
I took her to our family doctor last week. He said that it looked like some type of allergic reaction and that sometimes the first sun exposure of the year can cause a rash. The doctor gave her some cream for the itch and told her to take Benedryl.
Well, the cream and the benedryl did help some to relieve the itch, but as soon as she went to the next Track practice and was out in the sun, the rash would come back worse than ever!
She would itch soooo bad, it was litterally bringing tears to her eyes! She couldn't even sleep at night. Last night she was even taking a shower in the middle of the night to try to relieve the itch!
I thought and thought of what was new or different....no new soaps, no new detergents, no new lotions....The only "New" thing that we could think of was the Yaz pills.
So I decided to "Google" : Skin rash from Yaz
Wow! I found that several ladies out there were experienceing the exact same thing! Many of them also said that it was the sun that would tend to bring out the rash!
I took my daughter back to our family doctor today to tell him of my find on the Google Search. (Why do doctors not like it when we do that anyway?)
He said that it may be possible but he wants her to try some different cream and some sunblock and wait a week to see what happens.
So I decided to call her gyno. who put her on the Yaz in the first place. The lady who works in the office said that she would talk to the doctor and would get back with me. Well, they did get back to me only to leave a message that the doctor has never heard of the Yaz pill causing such a rash.
You can bet, that I am printing off some of the similar stories that I have found and will be at the gyno's office first thing in the morning!
Other than my daughters hives/rash, she hasn't had any other side affects so far. She has only been on the Yaz for 6 weeks, and the rash started about 2 to 3 weeks ago.
Good luck to all of you! Thank you for posting your stories, they were very helpful!

OMG!!! I had my hair in a pony tail this morning because of the rain and my co-worker said "OMG!! What are those bumps on the back of your neck!?" needless to say, I let my frizzy hair down to hide them and just made an emergency appt to see the dermatologist which is going to cost me $300. I've been on YAZ for 2 months now. I am stopping it immediately!!!!!!!

Thank god it is not just me! I have just been taken off Yasmin (after 4 months). I switched after taking Diannette for 10 months to sort out my hormonal acne. Being 35 my GP said that Diannette is too strong for someone my age to take for any length of time. After about a month of taking Yasmin I started to get very itchy, dry and red patches of skin in my face. Mainly around my eyes and mouth. I have suffered from eczema all my life so thought it was just another flare up. After suffering for 4 months I finally gave in and went to my GP (I don't often go as I find most of them pretty useless). Turns out I have an allergic reaction to Yasmin which caused acute skin photosensitivity. I have been in tears with the skin condition on my face, it was and still is horrible. Painful and itchy. Now i have come off Yasmin i am getting my sex drive back, I don't feel so depressed or moody but all of these symptoms are still with me to some degree and I understand it can take months for the drug to completely leave your system. Never again will i just acept what a Doctor prescribes me without doing my research. If only i had read the posts on this forum. Thank you all.

Today is the 9th day of taking Yaz. i wanted to try it to help my hormonal acne also. Yesterday i started noticing itchy bumps on teh inside of both thighs. I believed it to be from walking too much on the treadmill and sweating. Then the rash came up all over my abdomen. Again, I considered the heat to be a cause. Until tonight, now I have the same rask close to my armpits. I decided to google Yaz and rash and i can't believe what I am reading. I am definately stopping these. The itch is driving me crazy. I have been putting hydrocortsone cream on them but they still itch. I want my $57 back.

I wrote last night about the rash I have received since starting Yaz. I also forgot in include the mood swings. I have suffered severe mood swings this past week. Didn't realize it also was related to Yaz until now. The rash i was talking about? Well I stopped taking Yaz but today the rash has spread to my entire thighs, around my entire waist and around the back of my knees. I hope this goes away. The itching is driving me crazy. We are leaving for vacation in 2 days and there is no way I will be able to wear a bathing suit now. Please everyone, think twice before taking Yaz.

I recently had this bright red, extremely dry patch on my left cheek. It's SO embarassing! I thought this was Eczema concidering I have had it my whole life....but it had never spread to my face ago. I thought back to when it started, which was Februrary, and thought about what new was added to my life. The only thing I could think of was adding YAZ. After seeing these posts it makes me highly suspect the YAZ is doing it. I went to the doctor about it the other day (before finding these posts) and she said she didn;t know what it was and it was probably the "Eczema"....

Wow, thanks so much everyone for taking the time to post your symptoms. This has helped me tremendously and I will stop taking these pills - they are not worth the sleepness nights, the uncontrollable itching and burning and the dry rash on my neck that makes me look like a dinosaur.

hi, i was on yaz for 2 weeks when i got a rash on my left cheek , chin, and around the left side of my mouth. it didn't look like acne and no amount of acne wash has made a difference. i have been off of yaz for 4 days now and the bumps are at least not spreading or getting more swollen. they haven not gone away yet though. my rash does not itch at all though. but the bumps look like mosquito bites more than anything. i have a dermatology appt next week but i am so upset b/c i was taking a generic ortho cycln prior to this which caused a different type of a rash on the left side of my chin. i thought yaz would be better. instead it caused and even wider spread rash. i am so done with BCPs at this point.

Thank you all so very much. I have this itchy rash on my face - it almost looks like acne but I get a dry patch also. I suspected it was Yaz. I have gotten headaches also. Any one come up with how to treat it? or just switch pills...

I developed very dry itchy patches on my face, hands, and neck when I started yaz. It seems to have gotten progressively worse and I have finally switched back to ortho tri lo. Yaz gave my skin the blues

I have been on yaz for about a month and after about two weeks on it I developed a severe itchy rash all over my legs. It looked like I had been bitten by hundreds of bugs. The itching was so bad that I would scratch until I would bleed. I use to be on orth tri cylen lo and I am going back on it because yaz isn't worth it.

The SAME thing is happening to me. I just had a baby so the itching is ALL over my stomach and hips and my forearms! I scratch til I bleed and this is crazy. I find it's even stronger when I drink. You can stop mid month, just have something else to start up on. You shouldn't be sexually active unless you've been on it for at least a month though anyway. I haven't had any issues with the ring, so I might just go back on that. Just hear Yaz helped with weight. Yasmin, another form, caused me to have urinary tract infections...so now I'm just staying away from this stuff altogether. Hope I helped you out.

Hi! I have had these side effects a few hours after I took my first pill yesterday. I had large itchy welts on my stomach, arms, back, and behind my knee caps. I took Benedryl to ease the itching but I contacted my doctor to switch my prescription... My hives went away over last night but I am still a little itchy today. My doctor told me that is possible to get a respiratory infection after the hives as well so be on the watch for that as well.

I am going through the same thing but the rash is only on my stomach. It is VERY irritating. Only on the stomach. Nowhere else. Also, I have now gotten a yeast infection that is double irritating! Is anyone else out there having the same or similar issues with Yaz? This is the only thing I can backtrack and think would be the cause of this. Help.

Girls! Yes yes yes... experiencing this for a couple of days now but just started my second week of pills. Good God the woman who has been off of this for 2 months and experiencing the same side effects- I hope that doesn't happen to me. I was happy to find that I'm not alone but saddened that we all are going through this. My doc is going to hear about this. I've pretty much had issues with all pills my whole life and I finally listened to him at 36 about going back on the pill because of hormonal issues as well as intense bleeding. And this is what I get?! I should have looked this information up before I started. I will NOT take anymore.

I have been taking Yaz for about a month now..fixing to start the fourth row..I have already noticed weight gain. I am already a little over weight and for even my boyfriend to recognize im gaining a little weight it makes me sad. Also, i have noticed that when people get mad at me or somethign i have noticed that its alot more easier to cry. Like, i feel like im going to cry way more easier than before. I am wanting to stop..but i want to know if i should?? Also..I have no clue if this has anything to do with anything of YAZ but my legs have been itching like crazy and i just dont knwo why..

i was on Yaz for one month and stopped because of the following:
itching all over stomach and arms (near armpits) and even ankles, upper legs.
extreme tiredness and inability to get motivated for the gym (which i would do 3-4 times a week after work without fail or lack of motivation).
a feeling of not knowing myself - getting angry, down, depressed, anxious...all these came to a head and i decided to stop. i'm 35 and know we all react differently to pills/medication, but if yaz is meant to liberate, sadly it only made my situation worse than ever before

Wow! Hi all, I'm 34 years old. I've been taking Ortho-Cyclen 28 for the past 5 years. I heard a lot of good things about Yaz and figured I try it out. I've been taking Yaz for 2 weeks now. The ITCHING started the beginning of this past week! OMG, I was going bananas! I thought I had bed bugs! I thought it was my detergent! Common sense told me it had to be the side effect/allergic reaction to YAZ! So, what I started doing is drinking at least 20 ounces of water when I take the pill and now NO MORE ITCHING!!! Thank God. Since I normally take the pill around 11PM, now I take it about 9:30PM with a 20oz bottle of water (so I'm not running to the bathroom multiple times a night). I am still going to consult with my GYN this week to make sure YAZ is a good match for me. For now at least I'm not crying but sleeping at night!

I'm on my third week of Yaz and have never had much luck with the pill. This pill was recommended to me by my GP for its minimal side affects. The first week was all about the nausea, dizziness and general vertigo. The second week was all about the constant headaches, which i still get at least once a day. And now the itch has begun, it started as dry skin behind my ears and then into hives that have spread from the nape of my neck across my chest and down my shoulders and arms. What exactly has been peoples experience with stopping? Did the side effects continue for a period of time or did they go away straight away?

My daughter started taking Yaz 1 1/2 months ago at age 21. First thing we noticed was her face was starting to break out but the most distressing thing started about 5 days ago when she started to get a rash on her stomach....oh so itchy she could hardly stand it. Now, I called it a rash, but the bumps look almost like mosquito bites but bigger (we even thought maybe she had been bitten by bed bugs somewhere) These bumps also appear to have little white centers, but I think thats because she has been itching them soooo much that they are a wee bit infected. After reading page after page on Google of other gals having the same issue I am convinced that this is an allergic reaction to Yaz. We have an appointment tomorrow with her Doctor - and I dont care if he thinks Im nuts, we are getting her off of Yaz and will try something else.
A rash is symptom that can grow worse with time and become much more dangerous - its not worth taking a chance.....time to try something else.
ps...thank God for this forum.

I'm glad I'm not the only one!
Last weekend I was outside and got bitten by some mosquito bites so I didn't really take notice that I continued to itch for a week. But just last night I noticed that I'm getting more red itchy bumps. It's continuing to spread! I have some on my feet, stomach, and legs, but mainly on my arms! I went to the doctor today and she gave me some oral pills to take. I called the the pharmacy and asked if it was possibly the yaz I recently started taking because the timing seemed kind of right that it could be just a reaction to it. But he told me that that wasn't possible. I used yaz before and I was fine, but for whatever reason I stopped taking it. That was about a year ago, and just 2 weeks ago I got back on and now I'm getting a bump of itchy red bumps

I as well took Yaz for 4 months. I didn't experience the rash but I have been getting really bad hot flashes and mood swings. I stopped taking it about a month in a half ago and I'm still experiencing the same symptoms. I think I'm just going to stop taking birth control all together.

I'm so glad I found this site! I was on my second pack of Yaz when a mysterious rash starting appearing everyday. I thought it was the sun, then I thought it was my detergent, then I thought it was a yogurt I was drinking!! After reading all of your posts, I have concluded that it is the Yaz. I called my OB/GYN and she is skeptical about it. She says she's never heard of such a complaint and that hives are very uncommon with the pill. She advised me to stop taking it and wait a month to see what happens. So, I haven't taken it in about three days and the hives are much better already. I was breaking out in tiny bumps and rather large blisterlike lumps on a daily basis all over my forearms, thighs, stomache, and/or butt. It wasn't the same everyday. After about 30-40 minutes of severe itching, the hives would disappear until the next day. Now, I am getting one to two hives only. I am hoping that this will stop completely now that I stopped taking the Yaz. Urggghhhh!!!!!

Hi, I have been taking Yasmin for just 7 days. It was prescribed by my doctor to control my heavy periods. However about four days ago I noticed rashes on several areas of my neck. The following day I developed severe sores on each side of my mouth. I have been applying cream but nothing will clear it up. I think I have the same side effects as you guys. One thing I am not sure of: is it ok just to stop taking Yasmin or do you have to finish the course? If I do not finish the course what are the repercussions? I am feeling so uncomfortable with this dry red skin on my face I would like to stop taking Yasmin asap. Thank you and hope everyone else with the same side effects recovers!

I have been experiencing a chronic case of hives for the past 7 months. I've been to my GP more than five times and to a dermatologist once costing me $150 just to be put on prednisone, gain 10 lbs get a severe case of conjunctivitis in both eyes from my immune system being depleted, and then gained 15 lbs. It helped with the hives temporarily, but sure enough the next time I was exposed to the heat for several hours the hives came back with a vengence. I am so frustrated and never once did I imagine that it could be due to taking YAZ. I truly hope that this could be the answer to the question that I have been asking for the past year. This site definately helped me to not feel so alone.

I took YAZ from Feb 09- July 09. I started breaking out in hives shortly after starting YAZ. I thought that it was from something in my Biology lab because I'm super sensitive to certian things. Little did I know....

The rash that YAZ caused was all over my stomach, and my legs. I self diagnosed after two different doctors couldn't figure this misterious rash out! I stopped taking the pills in mid July and didn't start anything new until september. I went on the Nuviring in september for 2 days. The itching in my legs started to come back full force so I took it out. I've been off of YAZ for over 3 months, and the rash only gets worse! Thanks for the help and the encouragement! I'm glad I'm not alone in this fight!

I can't believe all of us are experience more or less the same thing and these doctors all seem skeptical or oblivious! I only started Yaz a week and a half ago and a few days ago my face started itching like crazy! Even as I type this I want to scratch it. Then I noticed this morning that I have little bright red hives on my neck and behind my ears. I've also been incredibly lethargic, finding it difficult to get out of bed. Evil Yaz! I'm stopping it right away. I hope the rash goes away soon -- can anyone else who has gone off it let us no if the rashes are going away at all?

Hello ladies:

I just wanted to inform all of you of a site that might be of some help. It is called the "Yasmin Survivors Forum" (if you type it into your search engine it will come up in the results) and there are many women there, including myself, who have experienced terrible side effects from either Yasmin or Yaz and offer advice and support.

I hope to see you there.

Meagan
