My 20 yr. old daughter was on Loestrin 24 Fe for almost a year with seemingly few side effects (except larger breasts). When her Rx ran out, the doc would not prescribe more until she had an exam. She ended up going off the pill for a couple of months, which was okay because there was no boyfriend or sexual contact during that time. She then got a prescription refill and went back on it. Within about 3 weeks she started experiencing random panic attacks including, headaches, nausea, rapid heart beat, sweaty hands and dizziness. At first she wrote it off as stress, but now they are happening ALL the time and are interfering with her life. She is a college student and is becoming paralyzed by the anxiety and the fear of a panic attack. She can't go to class, can't drive and is worried all the time. This is soooo unlike my happy-go-lucky daughter. She feels like she is going crazy. I talked to the GYN and she thought that the pill could definitely be enhancing these symptoms, but didn't feel they were the main cause. I now have a completely different opinion from her since reading all the posts on here describing the exact same symptoms while on this pill. My daughter has now stopped taking them (it's been about a week) and the doctor said it could take a couple of cycles for the drug to be completely out of her system. I'm praying that these symptoms go away after the hormones are flushed out....anyone have any experience with the anxiety going away after going off the pill??????

Please read my site. I am a 26 year old nurse, and had the same thing happen to me. I had my hormones tested, and it bottomed out my proegesterone levels to that of a menopausal woman. Let me know if I can help. I have been living in HELL for about 10 months.

Well, don't try YAZ if she's already having those side effects to a low dose pill already. I am new to birth control. Last week was my third week on Yaz. The first 2 weeks on it, I was fine. No real symptoms, but the third week, I began having anxiety (which I have never had before) and my heart would race every now and then. Also, I had a major loss of appetite. I would have to make myself eat even though I felt like gagging. I would try to go to sleep, but the anxiety would be too bad. (I took my pill at 8:00 every night) So, I stopped taking them. Yesterday was my second day off of the pill and all I wanted to do was sleep. (I guess from the lack of sleep due to the anxiety/panic attacks) Today my appetite is slowly coming back.
I contacted my GYN and they said they have never heard of those side effects from Yaz...but I looked it up online and there are tons of women complaining of the same thing.
They now want me to try Loestrin...which I am very hesitant of. I don't want to get my body back to normal and then start with the same problems again.

I am getting married in October and of course we don't want a baby right away....I must say...the old school condoms are looking like a better option every day!

I understand completely, but I am on the depo shot for my birth control. I havent been taking it long. But about a month after I got the first shot I started having really bad panic attacks. And they were during the day and at night. The ones at night were the worst. I am still baddling it but will not be getting the shot ever again. I have started taking B vitamins and also getting more calcuim. They have these daily vitamins that are called Stress Tabs, they are high in zinc and also b vitamins. I can already tell a difference in the way I handle stress and they way I handle my panic attacks.

I am 29 year old. I was only on the pill (loestum fe) for 1 cycle I got my period so I stopped it and started having very severe pannic attacks and tiredness. The worst was the attacks though...just last night it was so bad I was convinced i had to have my husband call 911. He finally assured me that it was a panic attack and after zanax I fianlly fell asleep. Today I feel a bit anxious and am scared i will have another attack. The problem for me is I have endrometeousis so I have to take the pill. I stopped my period today so I am planning on taking it tonight, I hope these symptoms go away. These panic attacks are pretty unmanagable.

I would recommend trying another product. My daughter ended up having to leave school (college), see a psychologist and be put on Klonopin and Prozac. She is now OFF the Loestrin, back to school and down to taking Prozac only. How sad that she had to endure this and be put on an anti-anxiety med just to cope. I forwarded all the posts on this site to our OB/GYN ( a woman) who, up to that point, had not heard any of these side-effects reported. It was so alarming to her that she vowed to show the pharmaceutical rep the next time she came in and to have it reported to the company. I believe this is absolutely a side-effect of the drug and that it has been under-reported. Time for all of us to stand up and let the company know what it's doing to our bodies and minds!! Good luck to you.
