Thank goodness I typed in "Dry cough "and "gag." I found this site and now I know WHY I can't seem to get over this "cold." I've been on lisinopril for about 3.5 weeks and I was beginning to think I had suddenly developed allergies. I get this terrible tickle and I try to fight it, because I know once I start coughing, it will take a while to settle down again. My eyes water, my head throbs, and I reach a point of nearly gagging. In addition, I get to deal with the added pleasures of menopausal stress incontinence. I'm MISERABLE! I've been needing to schedule an MRA for another non-related issue, and I have been putting it off due to concerns about being in the MRI machine and not being able to catch my breath. Thanks to all of your input here, I'm calling my doctor tomorrow. Enough is enough!

I'm feeling your misery. I'm right there with you. I started lisinopril 9/20/07 and didn't notice a cough right away. The week before Thanksgiving I caught a cold and had a sinus infection which left me with a nagging cough. Well, I'm still coughing. I wake up in the middle of the night coughing, and it's a gagging cough that results in vomiting sometimes. I have similar symptoms to yours, a severe tickle in my throat, eyes water, nose runs, head aches... nothing works to get rid of that coughing sensation in my throat. I've tried hot tea, all kinds of cough drops, nothing works! I just have to cough until the "coughing spell" subsides. Like you, I get to deal with the added bonus of stress incontinence. I have an appointment with a urologist at the end of this month. I have modified my lifestyle because I never know when one of these "coughing spells" will occur. I'm calling my doctor right now after reading everyone's input here. Thanks to everyone!

.I had been using this drug for a year and I, like you, thought I just suddenly developed allergies. I found this site about 3 1/2 weeks ago and realized this drug may be causing the problem. I stopped taking it and after two weeks the cough finally subsided and the tickle is just about gone. My family has noticed the change. Four months ago, I went as far as visiting an ENT and he was convinced that my uvula was too long and operated, which had nothing to do with my real problem, lisinopril. I should sue them!

Thank you everyone!!!!!!!!!!! I go back to the dr. tomorrow a.m. for a follow-up but I'm sure I now know why I'm coughing and gagging. I've been on lisinopril about a month and have been going crazy with the coughing fits for the past three weeks. I can't waith to get off of this medicine. I know I'm not supposed to take cough medicine but I had to try it, however it did not work at all. I'm so glad I found this website!!!!!!!!!

Are you taking any other medication along with lisinopril, which increases the intensity of side effects. Have a look at medications that increase the intensity at http://www.internationaldrugmart.com/Prinivil.html

Thanks to everyone on this website. I took myself off Lisinopril and immediately felt better although still coughing but I understand that takes a few weeks to go away. I had been on lisinopril for 12 years and thought I had no problems with it. I thought the blurry vision, headaches, and fatigue were just part of getting older. I never had the cough until recently when the manufacturer was changed for my prescription. I felt so lousy and had the awful cough that I looked this med up and couldn't believe what I was reading! This stuff is poison! I feel so stupid that I never researched this before. This stuff should be taken off the market.

pat4 . . . . You are smart to stop taking this drug that cause many side effects. Unfortunately, most drs. continue to push drugs . . while there are natural products/alternatives.

I, too, am suffering from the dry cough side effect. I have only been taking this drug for 7 days at 10mg. It seems to be working. My BP went from 148/98 to readings now in the 125/74 range. Like all of you, one never knows when it's going to hit you and you have to excuse yourself from a group of innocent bystanders! Has anyone been prescribed something to replace this drug as a result? I know about "lifestyle". I was a marathoner in my younger days and am not now overweight and sedentary. Great site for info!
