I was doing just fine taking 50 mg of Topamax but I was still having minor headaches. My doctor said to go to a neurologist because there may be a tumor to worry about. He doubled my morning dosage and added an evening dosage so now I am taking 200 mg. a day. I started the insanity on Friday. By Monday i went grocery shopping and couldn't remember what I was shopping for. Thank God i brought my husband with me...when I could remember that he was with me. And then when I remembered to ask him what we came for I needed to remember where it was. Upon returning home I offered to help my 7 year old grand daughter with her spelling homework. Do you how embarrassing it is to not remember how to spell first grade spelling words? Tuesday was Mardi Gras and we went to the movies so I was saved any further mind questions. Then along comes Wednesday and I returned to work. Well, I tried to get to work. I got lost. Here I was at Walgreen's trying to figure out what I was doing out at 6:00 in the morning. What day was it? The looks on other's faces when you ask them these question is not something funny. So, I get back in my car and aim in the direction I hope is work. Luckily, I remember where I habitually stop for breakfast. My memory comes back again and I make it to work. I am on time and all is well. Now, the day begins. I haven't had a period since December. Here it is February. And no, I am NOT pregnant. I can't concentrate. I ate 2 chicken nuggets for lunch and am full (now that is a healthy lunch, huh?). I was addicted to Dr. Pepper and now can't even stand the smell of it. I can't walk and chew gum at the same time. I found a note that I wrote sometime yesterday that really scares me because I don't remember writing it. It says, " Headache @ 1:55 no known trigger jut sudden movement to pick up papers from bin over desk. Nausea as well. Need to go to sleep forever." Good feeling to have? Depression is kicking in. I just called my doctor and he says decrease the medication down to 100 mg. Ummmm...How about I decrease it down to 0 mg and I take a Imitrex or 2 and a hot bath with a nap when I get home and live to see my grandchildren grow old! I think living with a migraine or 50 is far better than what I have been feeling this past week. If anyone can tell me that it gets better in less than 2 weeks I will stay with it but 1 more week of this and I will be a patient in a mental hospital. I can't even play Nintendo with my grandson...NOW THAT IS DEPRESSING!

OMG I hope that I don't have any of your bad side effects. I take 100mg a day..my appetite is basically gone but that pretty much suits me--I could use to lose a few lbs. what I don't like is that all of my soft drinks taste flat. Topamax has totally taken away my migraines though. Good luck hope things work out for you!

I just want to make sure to tell you to drink plenty of water with topamax. YOu should at least drink 10 8 oz glasses of water daily with your topamax and I think you'll see the side effects eaze off, but give it time. Water is really the key to seeing less severe side effects with this medication. I hope this helps. Let me know.

i'm 31 years old and i was put on topomax for basilar hemipalegic migraines i've been titrating up for the past few months and am now on 75 mg twice a day will be going up to 100 mg twice a day according to my neurologist. the mental fog does clear i promise you, you just have to wait it out, every time i go up a dose i go through it but each dose increase seems to get a little easier. i was getting horrible migraines with aura and facial paralysis, eye drooping and double vision every few days and now they are just sporadic. i do have to deal with the horrid pins and needles feeling in my hands and feet and at night i do feel like i have my own little laser light show (does anyone else see little trailers of light?) but the confusion and the memory loss it gets better and your brain adjusts it usually just takes a week or two. and then your back to normal...until your next titration that is. hang in there, as for playing nintendo good luck, the one thing i have noticed is the loss of coordination in my hands i can't type nearly as fast or perform tasks that require steady hands or really good motor function anymore i think its one of the side effects but you may not experience that one...good luck hang in there

rachelinflorida13 I also have the light shows (the trails of light) and I have had horrible twitching in my eyes where they move back and forth and what feels like my eyes are going to pop out, especially if I'm eating. I have an appt. tomorrow morning for this. I didn't realize that my memory was so bad until yesterday when my boss told me that I forgot to clock out for lunch, she said this is the second time it has happened. In addition my boyfriend has had to let me know that I am leaving the water running in the sinks, leaving the doors open (twice now), leaving the oven on and forgetting to put my car in park. My coordination has also been off, I dropped a plate into a skillet of hot oil, banged my head on the cabinet and have been bumping into things. But the worst is the light trailers and the eye pressure and the general tiredness and foginess of the mind. I have lost 38 lbs. so far, have no appetite and have been extremely anxious. After writing all of this down I realized something was wrong... and I'm still getting pretty bad migraines. So, I guess we'll see what they say tomorrow. I can't really increase the meds (I'm only on 50 mg) because I was having numbness in my face and lips.
