Mary Kay, the synthetic hormone in Mirena enters your bloodstream. It causes a certain enzym in your brain to break down the serotonin level, which can make you become depressed and moody. To comfort this moodiness, you may take to any addiction, like drugs or alcohol. It makes perfect sense.
You may also have trouble with your glucose levels. Many women complain that they are always hungry and/or nauseous. I could not lose weight no matter how I tried. I was even eating chocolate bars right before dinner to satisfy the urge of having to eat instantly.
I hope this helped,
Best regards,
Claudia
