This is the first time I've been to this site, so I don't know if there was previous discussion regarding this. Hope I'm not restating the obvious or what others have said. I've been on both drugs for years. I don't know what doses you're on, but most likely it's the Seroquel, especially since you said tired. It is incredibly sedating! I take Lamictal and 3 of my children do. One of my children also takes Seroquel as I do. He thinks it is his "sleeping" pill. He's so OCD that we haven't decided the best way to explain his Bi-Polar disorder to him just yet. All of the kids take their Lamictal in the AM only. I'm on a higher dose and it's split 200 in AM & 200 in PM. The only time any of us have ever even tried to take Seroquel during the day is a couple of years ago I was in the worst depressive/mixed state I've had in my life time. I was up to 300 or 400 mg of Seroquel a day for a couple of months and I took some during the day, but part of the point was to stop the hysterical crying and sedate me. I've never had to be hospitalized or ever tried to commit suicide. I feel my p-doc definitely knows what she's doing and has me and my children on the right meds.
Sorry I'm long winded, but I hope this helps. Lamictal is great for my family. Seroquel is more for short, critical care, or at least pretty darn low doses if used long term (like my son takes 25 mg to keep his mania at bay), but he's just gotten to 100 mg of Lamictal, so maybe at some point he won't need the Seroquel.
The Seroquel is what is making your son so tired. I currently take 800 mg of Seroquel and I take it at night because it makes me very tired. I have also gain a significant amount of weight which is frustrating as a woman but every medication has trade-offs. My doctor has mentioned putting me on Lamictal and I am very hesitant about it because I had nose bleeds when I took it the first time. Does anyone else know if this is normal or what other side effects not mentioned on the Lamictal website? I have heard that if you are not taking another medication with Lamictal then it will not help you.
I was very shaky and very tired on lamictal too. The shakiness will go away eventually unless you up your dose. Once I went on Lamictal XR, all that changed though. I highly recommend it.
