Hi I have had a Mirena coil for the past 2 and half years. For the last 18 onths I have been suffering with Chologenic Urticaria. I react to change in temperature (cold to hot) devole hives and itch. Each attack will last for 20-30 minutes. Also have pain in my knees and legs and have trouble walking up the stirs some days. Has anyone had these type of systems?

Hi
Thanks for the reply. Have you had any side effects since having the coil removed. Having read through the comments on the site I am worried about having the coil removed.

Hi I've had the Mirena since May of 2006 and I have had no side effects as the ones I''ve been reading about, thank God, but last August I started experiencing enormous knee pain and a weird rash just in my stomach with spots that turn from white to red to purple and they itch sometimes. As I am an avid excerciser I started thinking I was getting arthritis or something to that effect and will not asked my doctor so I would not hear what I didn't want to hear. I love outside sports like hiking and rappeling and all that stuff and the thought of not being able to do this is a scary thought. The pain in my knees has been unbeareable for about 5 months, it is very strong sometimes and mild some other times, but can not pin point a pattern. I have not stopped doing my thing and I have not experienced any of the other symptoms mentioned by most people using the IUD, but the unpredictable spotting periods. I am glad I am not going crazy. I hope you go back to your normal self, perhaps I should give some thought to removing it soon.

Hi, yes I too have joint pain in my lower back, hips, knees and ankles. When sitting for a while I am very stiff when I get up. I also had similar pain on the combined pill. I assume its due to the progesterone.

I also had these symptoms when I was on the combined pill, I assume its the progesterone. I have had the mirena in for 29 days and have had dull aching period type pains and bleeding(not spotting) everyday. I have been told it may take 3-6 months to settle.
