I came across this site when looking for information on Mirena lawsuits. I feel I should be part of one. I don't care about the money- just about getting this device off the market. Here's my story: I had the Mirena inserted in April 2006 (eight weeks post birth of my first child). At insertion I had the usual pain. Nothing compared to birth! Within a week I was experiencing painful intercourse, foul odor, and stabbing pains in my stomach. I had lost a lot of baby weight by this time, but now that I look back, I really didn't lose much since. I worked hard just to stay at the same weight. I also developed a rash all over my body, which I later had diagnosed from a dermatologist as some sort of skin disease, usually caused by an allergic reaction- bad news- once you get it, you have it for life. After several rounds of varying degrees of antibiotics (I was nursing at the time and for one round had to pump and dump), my doctors felt the infections were gone and I was okay. Soon though, I'm back in the office still complaining of these stabbing abdomen pains, painful intercourse, etc. My doctor tells me it's not the Mirena, it's something else. He convinces me to keep it in, after I asked to have it removed. (I'm the one who spent the money here, right?!) Now I have gone through PID diagnoses, you're in menopause diagnoses (I'm 24 at the time). They check to make sure the IUD is in place, and it is, so they basically write me off as crazy. My next step is to go to my primary care and ask him if the stabbing pain could be something else- I do that and he sends me to a gastro doctor. I end up with a colonoscopy and endoscopy which reveal nothing wrong. After a few more months of pain, I go to a new GYN. This one says, let's do a new ultrasound and get the thing out. But unfortunately, I had to have shoulder surgery before he could schedule- so I'm out of it for a few months (and pain medicated so not feeling the pain down there). In January 2008, I finally have the time to schedule to get the IUD removed. I get it out and it's not painful at all and I don't even bleed. I start menstruating normally again (hadn't had a period most of the time I had the IUD in). A few weeks later I start hemmoraging. I get an ultrasound. I have a mass on my uterus. I have surgery to get it removed. Biopsy comes back. It's benign (praise God). But, it's inflammatory tissue, cause from the IUD. More money down the drain and more time and mentally draining. Basically, the IUD got so infected that the tissue formed around it and attached to my uterus. YUCK. Now I'm not one for lawsuits, but if ever there was a product that shouldn't be on the market- I'm going with the Mirena IUD. Every girlfriend I have that has had it, has had it removed within the first year (save my mother- but she had that old IUD in her for over 20 years-another yuck). It's a money making machine for doctors and the drug company. And it's a super-pain. I'm feeling so much better and I'm losing weight again! Now if I could get rid of this rash! (Not likely!)

I'm so sorry to hear how much you suffered and dished out (money wise). I completely agree that this IUD needs to be taken off the market. I'm talking to a lawyer because mine perforated through my uterus and just caused pain. I feel for you especially because of the rash too. Good Luck!

I had Mirena for 3 years and never had a single complaint about it. (Never gained a pound while I had it.) except I never had my period. Which can be normal. It's one of the possible side effects. Until early 2008 I started to bleed or spot for almost a month and had terrible abdominal pain. Went to see my obgyn. Turns out I had an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy. An emergency surgery had to be performed the very same day, since the tube had already ruptured. My left tube had to be comletly removed as well as the iud, mirena. I am now taking the pill...first pack ever. I hope it all goes well this time.

I have been dealing with a lot of crap with my mirena also. I got to mirena inserted when I was 8 weeks post partum. I went in to have it removed a few days ago because I have had the mirena for 3 months now and I have had pains ever since. I deal with a lot of cramping, back pain, nausea, fatigue, and anxiety. I just figured all of it was due to post partum for a while until I started hearing alot about mirena side affects. When I went to have it removed they couldn't find it. So, they did an ultrasound and thought they saw it at the top of my uterus and scheduled me to come back 2 days later to have it removed in the office. Today I went in and they did another ultrasound and this time didn't see it at all. My doctor said that I am going to have to have surgery to have it removed. I am only 21 years old and this is devastating to me! I think it should be removed from the markert until they can get everything working correctly!

Well, here's some good news. The doctor's said they didn't know if I'd be able to conceive again and I am now 20 weeks pregnant. Fortunately for me, I am healed. I wish the rest of you the best with everything and for a quick recovery if you do have problems with Mirena.

I can't believe there are a few of you actually getting attorneys. What is happening to all of you are listed as side effects that you should have made yourselves aware of (in reading about Mirena) and educated yourselves further on before you had the Mirena placed! Every side effect was in the open. I have a Mirena and have had it for two and a half years. I have mild abdominal cramping, which was fully disclosed. I choose to live through it for the benefits (no periods and no pregnancy worries). When you CHOSE to place an un-natural object in your body for the purpose of benefitting from the positive....you CHOSE to accept that the cons may happen to you. The Mirena has done great things for many women. It is a misfortune that you have suffered one or more of the negative side effects, but as an adult who can make her own decisions, you must not blame a company that has fully disclosed the possible side-effects! You knew it when you had it inserted! Or, did you not read? What ever happened to personal responsibility? It doesn't matter what object or medication you CHOOSE to place in your body, there will ALWAYS be a possible side-effect! It's a risk you CHOOSE to accept by taking it!

I had the Mirena in for seven years (I know, it's listed for five, but my Kaiser doctor kept saying it was fine.)

During that time I experienced quite a few UNLISTED side effects that I have since found have occurred with many other users posting to message boards. Weight gain, hair loss (which I think has since been added to the literature), facial hair (the worst - and still here after removal of the Mirena!), anxiety and depression, odor no matter how clean I kept, and one of the most disturbing - constant bloating and gas. I saw doctors for all of these symptoms, but everyone insisted they were unrelated. However, when I had it removed to get pregnant my ob-gyn admitted that she's had several complaints about the facial hair and hair loss, and said that they're rumored to be reformulating the product to address it.

I was lucky enough to be able to get pregnant a few months after removal, but first I had to go through a horrible "withdrawl" period, during which I had horrible anxiety and insomnia - literally, there were nights where I didn't sleep a wink. I've never experienced anything like it!

My name is Dusti Brown from Independence MO.I had my baby in April 2009 and after my six weeks I was already back down to my desired weight a week later I got the mirena and started to gain it all back I asked the doctor at my 3mth follow up and he said weight gain was not a side effect. Also I beleive that I am losing alot of hair from this medication. About 3 weeks ago I was cramping really bad and I never have had cramps then I went to bed the next day I woke up and could not move I felt as if I had the most severe flu like symptoms ever. I had 104 temp chills low blood pressure. I was freezing cold but sweating like no other. I tried to stick it out took some aleve and theraflu they did not help. I was shaking like I was in a freezer but my body was burning up. My head felt like it was going to explode. I was vomiting but I could not eat so I had nothing to throw up. So the next morning I woke up after not really getting any sleep I felt misriable I had my boyfriend take me to the emergency room I felt so bad I could not even get myself dressed my boyfriend had to even put my shoes and socks on. At the emergency room they took my vitals my blood pressue was 54/92 and even got lower than that. My pulse was 140 my temp was 103.9 ..basically they said if I had not come in I would be dead. They took some urine and blood and there was an infection in my urine so they started me on antibiotics then they told me something was abnormal in my liver, I do not drink but maybe once a month if that usually just on occasions so I did not understand what was wrong with my liver they said I had to be admitted for 2 days to do some blood tests and keep an eye on my liver issues. After 30 tubes of blood they said I had bateria in my blood which most likely inflammed my liver, they think the bacteria was from a uti I had developed. All the tests came back negative for the liver problems it was just inflammed. So my fever stayed and my blood pressure had gotten as low as 54/86 my blood sugar was 161 they even had to give me insulin.I ended up being in the hospital for SIX days. I am a ver7y healthy person I have never even been sick a day in my life beside the morning sickness from being pregnant with my first child, so I knew something was out of the normal. Then when I got out I researched the side effects of Mirena and I feel like I have been under adviced there are so many more side effects than I was informed of. While the whole reason for me sharing my life-threatening hospital stay was because one of the side effects is Sepsis this is a severe illness in which the bloodstream is overwhelmed by bacteria.Which symptoms are Chills
Confusion or delirium
Decreased urine output
Fever or low body temperature (hypothermia)
Hyperventilation
Lightheadedness
Rapid heart beat
Shaking
Skin rash
Warm skin
Sepsis is caused by a bacterial infection that can begin anywhere in the body. Common places where an infection might start include:

The bowel (usually seen with peritonitis)
The kidneys (upper urinary tract infection)
The LIVER or the gall bladder
The lungs (bacterial pneumonia)
The skin (cellulitis)
The infection is often confirmed by a blood test. But, a blood test may not reveal infection in people who have been receiving antibiotics.

In sepsis, blood pressure drops, resulting in shock. Major organs and systems, including the kidneys, liver, lungs, and central nervous system, stop functioning normally.
The death rate can be as high as 60% for people with underlying medical problems. The death rate is somewhat lower in those without other medical problems.

These are all the symptoms I was having and I did have bacteria in my blood I believe the mirena did this to me.
So I dont know if anyone else has experienced this but THIS IS NOT WORTH MY LIFE I have an appointment Dec 3 to get the Mirena removed but I would like to take legal action because this is unexceptable and I BELIEVE MIRENA ALMOST TOOK MY LIFE.
