I was prescribed Levaquin 1000 mg. for 5 days for pneumonia the last week of December 2006. I was also prescribed Prednisone. Everything I ate tasted like metal. A couple of days after I started taking the Levaquin I started experiencing muscle cramps in my rib cage which are so severe it makes me double over in pain. After more than a year I still have the muscle cramps which now include not only my rib cage, but the arch of my feet and sometimes legs. I have a torn tendon in my left arm which didn't happen until about a month ago, but I am sure it is caused from muscle damage from the Levaquin. I am also on Advair Discus 250 which I didn't take before using the Levaquin. I didn't require inhalers or other medication before the pneumonia. My doctor now says I have COPD caused from asthma and chronic bronchitis. I used an Albuterol inhaler when I first got sick because the pneumonia was so bad. I thought after taking the Levaquin I would get back to normal. But even after the infection was cleared up I would get out of breath, so I returned to my doctor. She did an x-ray and said I had COPD and prescribed the inhalant. What I don't understand is that I didn't have breathing problems before the Pneumonia. I didn't have joint pain and muscle cramps either. I have had to quit working this past year because of it. I cannot go without the Advair, I can no longer walk long distances without pain. I have constant muscle pain just trying to do normal housework. How long do the effects last? Must be a lifetime.

So sorry you experienced this. I was poisoned in Oct 2004. Some things are better but some are the same. I have constant tinnitus, hearing loss, most of my taste is better but not normal, still have aches and pains in feet, shoulders. I had pain in my ribs immediately after the first pill. I sure wish I knew that it was a sign to quit the meds. Go to www.fqvictims.org for some help and please send in a MedWatch report by going to www.fda.gov

After everything that has been written about combining Levaquin and Prednisone why are they still being prescribed together?

When is the medical community going to realize this is not an "isolated few cases" and get their collective head out of the sand?

I'm sorry this happened but we all need to get the word out!

I was hoping to hear from msbelle. After reading your posting I umderstood entirely now where my pains were coming from. I was in the same exact situation and am so tired besides scared of not feeling good. Have you had any other doctor appointments with any results, and how are you feeling now. I have a gastro appointment in 2 days. The burning in my chest and back is killing me. I do believe this is all a result of the medications I was on for walking pneumonia, which than put my asthma in full effect. I would love to hear from you.

I too have C.O.P.D. which is I am being told is caused from Asthma and Chronic Bronchitis which I have had my entire lifetime (literally).Which has created scarring and Emphysema and Broncheolitis. I was diagnosed in 2006 and I certainly understand the frustration and the pain of your body hurting and shortness of breath while doing ANYTHING ( some days are better than others). I was informed recently, however, that I have Rheumotoid arthritis which I had been diagnosed about 7 years ago with. Although I was told in 2006 that the R.A. wasn't TOO bad, my doctor informed me the other day, that there is now joint damage. I write you because I have been researching, and there seems to be a connection with R.A. and C.O.P.D. You may consider making sure your Primary Care Physician realizes just how much pain you are in so they may check into the matter further. I know if you are like me there are some days I can't even make my bed without being so short of breath I get dizzy and I can't even begin to describe the pain in my joints. the C.O.P.D. is discouraging enough, but when you add pain with it, it becomes even more frustrating. I am a Christian and I will be praying for you. Just please know that I do totally understand.
