Thanks for all these posts! My 4 year old daughter has a history of allergies which have in the past led to sinus infections and bronchitis. We used Xopenex and Pulmicort with the nebulizer along with Vazobid and Delsym and cleared up the bronchitis during Christmas 2007, but her pediatrician suggested her taking Singulair as a preventive medication for her allergies. This medication has turned our household upside down. She has taken it every night for 3 weeks and the side effects are the same as others have posted.......aggressive behavior, severe defiance to simple tasks, nightmares, stomach cramps, wetting accident at school (first time ever), weight gain, bruising, and vomiting. When told "no" she replies with wanting to kick me and tells me she doesn't want me as a mom anymore. The devilish behavior is intolerable. She was never like this before she started taking Singulair, and I am so thankful that I found this website quickly enough to put 2 and 2 together, and I am taking her off of it TODAY!!!

My Amazing Blessing that is my 5 year old son has had a chronic cough for almost a month. We were supposed to go to the allergy doctor for that and the day before he broke out in hives while at Panda Express Chinese Food, so we saw the doctor for both issues. He said my son has mild asthma and prescribed Singular. My gut said I'm not comfortable with this, but I still went to Costco to have it filled. It was at the counter when I was about to pick it up I just felt like it wasn't a good idea so I left it there and came home. And here I sit reading this and crying. Please tell me what are the alternative treatments that have been working out there. I just need to help my son to stop coughing from these allergies or asthma, or whatever is causing his nonstop coughing. But I don't want these extra side effects. PLEASE HELP ME FIND ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO HELP HIM. THANKS!

My daughter has had the same thing....a cough that just won't go away. We have used the nebulizer breathing treatments as needed with the Xopenex and Pulmicort. Vazobid (Prescription) which is a decongestant along with the over the counter Delsym cough medicine have worked the best for her. They also say using a humidifier and maybe rubbing a little bit Vicks on his chest may help to relieve it. Good luck. I know how you feel. He will get better.

Also, I forgot in my earlier post to note that Zyrtec is now available over the counter as well as Claritin. Those are 2 allergy medicines you can research.

Thank goodness for this blog! My 6 yr. old has been on Singulair since December. She has been complaining of awful stomach pain and headaches. At night, she comes screaming down the hall to my husband and I with bad dreams. Finally, after reading your posting, I am so relieved we have an answer. I have called my family doc 3x's and she kept saying it wasn't the meds. We have an appt. w/an allergist in 2 weeks, but was pulling my hair out waiting for this appt. Praise God He relieved this website for me and more importantly my poor little girl!
