I am 49 years old and have been experiencing the perimenopausal symptom of very heavy menstrual bleeding. I got the Mirena to control my periods; I didn't want to go on birth control bills or have a surgical procedure. My Mirena was inserted 2-07-08. Insertion was mostly a nothing, just a bit of cramping while I was on the table; then I was immediately fine After that I had a couple of days of slightly stomach upset, and I remember thinking it felt like morning sickness. I've had some extremely light spotting, but haven't had my first period yet. My only real complaint is that I've gained three pounds so far. I'm really hoping this won't continue, as it will be a deal breaker. I'm trying to lose about 10 pounds, and do not want to get into a situation where the weight really piles up. I also have extreme breast tenderness, also not unlike early pregnancy.
