I take this medication. I take it in the morning. Some people take it at night as it may cause some drowsiness. It is also OK to split the dose between morning and night. There can be some weight gain but the benefits far outweigh the side effects (for me anyway).
Hello. I have taken this med for about 3 months. As far as when to take it, it seems to depend on the individual. Some folks get somewhat sedated from it, others are kept up at night. My pdoc basically told me I could take it in the morning, at night, or split it...just stick with a schedule. I am on two meds right now and am putting on weight. I think it is more due to the Remeron than Lamictal. Hope I helped a little bit.
hi,
i have been on this for several months. At first i was taking it at night. I could not fall aleep. I decided to take it in the day untill i became accustom to it. last week i switched to taking it at night. I was having a hard time staying asleep, i would wake up at 3 am. This helps me. i love this medication. i was previously on depakote and i gained 30 lbs. i lost 20 o it so far. also my thinning hair is growing back too.

I was on Lamictal for 4+ years. I was tried on many other meds, all of which caused massive weight gain - I gained 100 pounds in one year. But Lamictal, for me, was weight neutral. I think the expert opinion is that it can cause "weight change", which means it can go either way. But most patients I talk to either don't have any change or loose a few pounds.
I had to split my dose (400 mg a day) into morning and night, but that was because of the headaches. I would take it as prescribed - if that causes a headache or other side effect, check with your doctor AND pharmacist before changing how you take it.
