I am not quite sure why you even posted a remark then to be frank. This board is for those unfortunate ones who have experienced side effects. Yes every drug has a side effect some mild to severe. That is why they are called drugs. Our bodies react differently to everything from food to a drug. However there is overwhelming evidence in this drug of the significant side effects of this drug. The drug companies place those warnings one for liability reasons and two for us unsuspecting parents to be aware of what could happen and what to watch for. The problem here is Singulair did not list these effects until just recently and kids did die. I think it is great Singulair worked for you. But you need to be sensitive to those who it did not work for my friend. Tell this to my 5 year old who experienced psychotic episodes. Whose pediatrician, neurologist and subsequently his psychiatrist all agreed the singulair caused this. He is still having lingering effects. So unless you have seen what happens first hand of the ill effects please remember that this site is designed for those who have had negative interactions with drugs and not those trying to tell parents to look at themselves as parents. Tell that to the woman whose son committed suicide. Let me also state I am a medical professional and have been in the medical community for 10 years. There is so much you don't know!!! I have seen first hand what this drug is capable of in young children. Your child is young and it may work well now. Just beware when you question yourself 2 years from now on your childs behavior you just may feel differently and look back! Please just be a little more sensitive to those of us who have had very ill effects with this drug. The drug worked great for my child for almost a whole year until we saw the terrible effects. It took a seizure for us to put it all together! Which ps is a side effect!
I can concede that all drugs have some side effects. However, when you are dealing with young kids being suicidal it is much more serious!! These people on this board are not being insensitive they are telling the TRUTH! It's true that not everyone will have side effects, however, when the percentages are as high as they seem parents should be aware. How would you feel if one of your children committed suicide and you had the knowledge to prevent it? And as far as trusting your doctor I have found out from other medications that the doctors are often kept in the dark about side effects. It's in the drug companies best interest to keep it that way! And as far as the FDA, they are nothing but a joke that can be bought by the enormous wealth of the drug companies! Just a thought before you trust everything your doctor says.
I can tell you for certain that Singulair was the cause of my psychological problems and my suicide attempt. I had always been a very well-adjusted individual before going on Singulair...I could handle anything you throw at me. I even remained in graduate school when my father died during the first year and continued to excel at my work. Singulair turned me into someone I did not know. I tried to go off my psych meds many times during the two years I was on Singulair and did not suspect it as the culprit. Every time, I would start to get suicidal and had to go back on the meds. I have finally been able to wean off my pysch meds and feel good about myself now that I am off Singulair. There is no doubt in my mind that Singulair caused my problems. It is a pretty easy cause/effect to establish. Singulair alone = depression/anxiety/suicidal. Singulair with psych meds (I tried 3 different classes of meds) = depression/anxiety, but at least not trying to kill myself. No singulair + pych meds = feeling fine, for the most part, but wondering why I am still on the meds. No meds at all = I am back to my old self. I have done very well-controlled experiments with my psychiatrist, and we are both absolutely certain that singulair was causing this. I can understand the need for balance in evaluating drugs (I am receiving a PhD in Physiology in August), but I think I know a little better than you do what Singulair did to my body and my mind.
