My daughter was put on Nasonex last year for mild fall allergies, which had just been diagnosed. She ended up with heart palpitations, shortness of breath, anxiousness and night terrors. Once I finally made the connection with Nasonex , after three weeks, we had her stop using it and she was fine. During that time she hardly slept was afraid to play soccer because of the heart palps and ended up having a heart ultrasound because our doctor was so concerned. We since use an over the counter med on bad allergy days and she uses an over the counter menthol inhaler during soccer games. For us these alternatives help enough to make up for the bad side effects of Nasonex. By the way, our doctor doesn't agree, we came up with alternatives by talking to other parents. My doctor still keeps asking if we need a refill even though I've insisted she will never take it again.

What products do you use as alternative?

Yes, I too was prescribed the Nasonex 2 years ago...used it for almost 3 weeks, definitely stopped the allergic rhinitis (seasonal allergy) issue, then stopped using it. However last year, fall season, allergies started again so I started using the Nasonex for 1 week and then started noticing some rather frequent heart fluttering....went to the doc, he took EKG, of course they were not fluttering at the 2 minutes if that of the testing...I asked him if it could be the Nasonex as it was the only med I was taking except for the thyroid med (been on that for over a decade) and he said he had never heard of the Nasonex causing this type of problem? Well anyway I stopped the Nasonex and within 3-4 days my heart flutters went away. Hmmmmm! Don't want to use it anymore even tho it cleared up the allgery symptoms....trade off....heart flutters vs allergies....opting for the allergies. What is the OTC you give your daughter?
