Are you aware about short and long term side effects of this Devil's drug??? Of course, everybody reacts differently while take or withdraw. But there are high number of people who react terribly bad!!! Doctors do not want to recognize and discuss this. They just keep silent... Do you know exactly how Prednisone works??? Nobody knows this for sure, even doctors!!! From my personal experience, and despite gradual withdrawal, I developed extremely high blood pressure, weakness, panic attacks, depression! Practically it ruined my normal life! Doctors have no clue how to deal with its devastating side effects. Steroids are not selective. When you take a steroid, the drug infiltrates the nucleus of every single one OF YOUR CELLS AND STARTS MONKEYING AROUND WITH GENES IT FINDS THERE!!! It probably plays with hundreds of genes. And just a small number of these genes control the pain and inflammation associated with inflammatory diseases, so steroids turn many of these genes off which is good thing. However, because steroids are not selective, they also regulate the genes that control kidney, liver, BRAIN, and HEART function - which is not good thing!!! It is likely that steroid treatment plays with other genes, too, including those we do not know about a lot right now...So, Prednisone pervades the entire body, which increases the likelihood of short-term side effects and long-term DAMAGE. My advice is: THINK TWICE BEFORE TAKING PREDNISONE!!!

Prednisone has saved my life several times. I am a highly sensitive asthmatic and I don't believe this is the devils drug and I think you might need to reexamine your self to see what could be causing your problems. The only side effects i have ever had is Moon Face and I tend to feel hungry a lot. But I don't end up back in the ER and I am alive, so those side effects are nothing to me. I have never heard of any of your side effects stemming from Prednisone use.

Yes, there are many side effects to this drug......Just because it worked out well for you does not mean people do not need to be informed to the many, many side effects this drug has. How long were you on it? It does have it's positives, but it also carries alot of negatives that doctors I think have the responsibility to make people aware of. This drug has slowly destroyed my life and the side effects while you are on it is not all you should be aware of. This drug has long term side effects even after you stop taking this drug.So you should research this drug before you claim that it is not a bad drug and maybe read the other posts of some of the other long time users......

Yes, Prednisone being a corticosteroid drug, has very serious undesirable side effects. Among just a few, it lowers the immune response, affects bones, and shuts down adrenal glands. I’ve been completely off Prednisone for nearly a year, and I still cannot return my adrenal glands (and my whole body) to their normal state. High-quality supplements are very helpful, and I take them regularly to offset corticosteroids’ side effects. Be very careful with Prednisone or Cortisone because the long-term side effects of this drug may be devastating to the body.

Doctors don't want to discuss or recognize the side effects of steroids? I'll have you know that steroids, their mechanism of action, and their side effects are discussed thoroughly in our pharmacology classes. All doctors are aware of these side effects. A normal, good doctor will also inform you about all of them. The fact is that steroids are life-saving drugs, and some people would simply not survive without them.

Hi Craigl!

I am not a doctor but I would advise that if you have any other options you should probably avoid Prednisone. Sometimes you may not have any between life or death... So it's up to you and your doctor to make a right decision. Good luck and health!
