i ve had a dvt for 6 months since i had my son i found out a wee ago that im pregnant andnow on clexane 2twice aday im scared of any side effects and im scared that it ccould kill me. when doctors first noticed somethink with my blood in last pregnacny they never done ny think if hey did i was told by another doctor i woiuld of been ok now
When I was given Clexane in hospital the effects were as follows immediately after the injection.
Raised heart rate
Raised blood pressure
Feeeling hot
Light headedness
Dry throat
Pounding headache
There does not seem to be any information on this reaction.
I was given Clexane before an operation to remove my Gall Bladder by keyhole surgery in August 2008.
After the surgery, everything seemed normal, but I collapsed on the first trip out of bed. The next day I didn't feel at all well. I stayed in hospital a few extra hours & then was released. At night, when I got into bed I could hear my own heart thumping. I couldn't sleep for it. The next day I felt very weak. A friend came & she said I looked terrible (not at the time, but after the event). By night time, still having this thump thump thump in my chest I made a phone call to NHS Direct to ask their advice. They told me to go back to hospital A & E asap.
They examined me thoroughly & the A & E Doc thought it was all post operative stuff. However, he decided to take a blood test just to be on the safe side. After a 2 hour wait he came back with 2 nurses & I was admitted. My blood count had dropped to 7.4. By the time I got onto a ward my blood count was 7 exactly.
The consultant who operated said Clexane had thinned my blood too much. The blood had gone into the chest--none of it had leaked out of the wound or into my digestive system. If it had I would have realised I was bleeding.
I'm still not sure I've been told the truth about this.
I had 3 units of blood & a unit of plasma (because there wasn't a medic on the ward who could put the blood in during the night--beggars belief). I wonder whether I should wear some sort of bracelet to make sure I'm never given this again?
