Having read all the other peoples comments, am feeling a little less like I am going mad! I am 33 and have no children and had the Mirena coil fitted 18 months ago to combat VERY heavy periods and a dangerously low iron level (i suffer from PCOS). All seemed to be going well for the first 6 months or so- still bleeding but less heavily and a little bit of weight gain, but nothing too scary. Then 9 months in I got what seemed to be a very bad case of herpes the doctor didn't do a blood test, but did give me medication and pain killers.....I have been with my partner for 4 years, we are both faithful and I have never even had a cold sore before! In the past 9 months my period have been getting more frequent again (one every couple of weeks for about 5 days) but not as heavy as before AND I am getting a very swollen every month with dry itchy areas and sometimes a blister! Does anyone know if it can cause a dormant herpes infection to become active? I am also putting on weight more and the mood swings are getting more pronounced....lots of uncontrollable for no reason and my sex drive is either very high or not there. I think I will get it removed, but I am scared of the effect this will have on my periods........can anyone help!

i am going through the same thing with sores, i thought came from the itchyness. my husband and i have been faithful to each other for 5 years. i see my doctor on the 20th to have the mirena removed. i am so worried. i wonder the same thing about this as you are. can this thing make a dormant case come out, or could it be another type of infection? whatever it is, we are not alone in this case. this was the worst thing i put in my body. all the ads seemed promising. it all started after about 18 months of having this thing. i just want everything that has come from this mirena to go away. i can't believe something was so great for the first year, turned out to be one of the worst things i can imagine. i am printing off a few pages of these side effects and taking them to my doctor when i go so he knows it is not just me.

Well I was just educated on herpes today I'm not really gonna explain the background but I was at the doctors when my girl friend was diagnosed and I asked the doctor if it was possible I had herpes and had no signs she said yes and that she had herpes for 20 years before her first out break and that she had gotten it from her mother at birth

I figure if you can go for twenty years without an out break than its possible that you or your partner had it for some time and never knew I think the mirena was just a coincidence especially if the out break occurred 18 weeks later

basically what I'm trying to say is herpes is almost untraceable you may have caught it from any sexual partner at any time and it just lay dormant till now and that sexual partner may live there whole life with out an out break and will never know they had it has nothing to do with faithfulness and don't bother with the blame game cause just because you broke out and your partner didn't doesn't mean you don't have it

something you may want to consider is the effect of herpes meds on your birth control just a thought cause it can decrease the effectiveness
