I have the Mirena IUD, I have had it in since March of 2004. I went in to see my doctor today to have it removed. She was unable to remove it, as the strings are not where they are supposed to be. She has referred me to a specialist (she is family practice.) I am very apprehensive about going to someone else to have my IUD removed, can amyone tell me what to expect? (An ultrasound was done about 6 months ago and it was determined that my IUD was still in place.) Also, is it appropriate to ask for some kind of pain relief prior to my appointment?

Mine was out before I could count to one.... On a pain scale from 1 to 10 I would give it a 1 or even less..... it was nothing like the insertion, really!

I wish it were that simple for me!!! I went in to have it taken out (like you did) and it was supposed to be over in maybe 2 minutes....10 minutes later they are digging around in there with odd looking tools, it hurt quite a bit. Apparently my strings have wandered up through my cervix and are too far for any regular dr. tool to get at!!! So I have to go back in to a gyno. to have them reopen my cervix and fetch it out with some more odd looking tools!!! UGH Scheduled to go in April 28th, long time to wait!!!! Luckily though I haven't had any negative side effects! :) thanks for replying!
