How do you know its related to levaquin? I've never heard that but I was given it in the hospital last summer and had a skin reaction like you.
Vancomycin has absolutely no relation with levaquin other than the fact it is considered to be a drug of last resort.
Vancomycin has absolutely no relation to levaquin or any of the other fluoroquinolone drug other than the fact that it is considered to be a drug of last resort.
Itching...began 10 days into taking Levaquin, and continues sporadically 4 months later. Now less severe, but I hope it will eventually disappear. Insomnia stopped within a week of discontinuing. I will not take any flouroquinolone again.
PLEASE Consult a pharmacist or physician before you post things that people read (and unfortunately will usually believe whatever they read!) I am a physician assistant....there is absolutely NO relationship pharmacologically between flouroquinolones (levaquin) and vancomycin. Please don't believe what you here from someone else before checking with someone who is more qualified.
Thank you to the PA who posted the above reply - I am a pharmacist and can tell you 100% that levaquin and vancomycin are not related in any way, shape, or form other than they are both antibiotics. Never ask a nurse - drugs are not their specialty. My cousin is a nurse and routinely tells our 95 year old grandparents completely erroneous medical information, and then I have to clean up the problem. Nursing is a great profession, but do not consult them for medication information, PLEASE. I have fixed their medical mistakes on a daily basis for the last 20 years.
your infrormation from the nurse is wrong - levo is a quinilone and vanc is a strong form of pennicillin - work totally different in the body. quinilones work on the dna of the bacteria while penns work on the cell wall of the bacteria, as well as having different abilities of killing different bacteria
I have recently been feeling itchy, particularly in the morning. I took Levaquin after having Scarlett Fever (Strep w/a rash). It has been 9 days since I stopped taking the Levaquin. Hopefully this itchy feeling will go away soon.
