I am a 45 year old male. My bp at dr's office was 144/90. He prescribed Lisinopril 40 mg once a day and said come back in a month and see how I'm doing. I tried it and immediately experienced dizziness with headache and lack of energy, then later I noticed I was getting winded with little exertion along with fatique. I could hardly climb a flight of stairs with out resting. Also would get out of breath just talking to people. Isn't this a high dose to start with? I stopped after a few days and tried later with same symptoms. I am 5'8 155 pounds in fairly good health except for borderline high bp. Should I keep trying to take this med.....or reduce the dose?

My suggestion to you would be a sound; No! Don't continue using this Medication with such drastic side effects. It also does seem like a high dosage. I wonder if you should be seeing a different Doctor to treat your condition? Look up on the internet such as this page where you posted your concerns to see what is there on side effects e.t.c You should find that with such side effects, that you should consult your Doctor who by right should be re assessing your condition re: Medictaion.
I had a bypass done (triple) just recently. I was on an 8 mg Atacand.
In the Hospital they gave me Minax50. This medication was fine for a while as it served it's intended purpose. It does give me some headaches, tiredness and i am now coming off this to revert back to my usual Atacand Medication. On the Minax50 Phamplet, it tells you to see your Doctor if you are experiencing side effects, some of what you described.
So? See your Doc or another Doc.

You're having a reaction to the drug, so don't consider using it at a lower dosage - because if you do you'll still feel bad but not as bad and might end up being convinced to stay on it long enough to cause permanent damage.

Before I started Lisinopril, my bp was 180/111. My Dr Started me on a lower dose and continued to up the dosage until my bp was in the normal range. I am now taking Lisinopril 20/25. Ever since I started taking Lisinopril, I have had all the exact same symptoms that you have had. I seen my Dr. over 5 times in the last month and half since I've been on the drug. I have also went to the ER 3 times too. My Dr. refuses to believe that it's the Lisinopril. My Dr. keeps telling me it's related to the flu that I caught in the begining of feb!!!!

I was starting to believe that it was all in my head. I'm going to find a new Dr..... Thank-you
