I was prescribed Cipro for a UTI on 1/25/08. I took 500 mg for 7 days. About day four I began to experience intermittent "little pains" in my hands and feet. I thought it could be a side effect of Cipro but no big deal and would subside when I finished the prescription. Boy was I wrong. It has been two months and every week that goes by I feel worse. I have pain and mild cramping in my arms, hands, legs and feet on and off all day. The muscles in my neck and the back of my head tighten up and I get very lightheaded. When I get up in the morning I am extremely stiff and do not feel like myself most of the time. I have read many comments by others who have used this drug on several websites and I am quite worried at this point. Can I expect these symptoms to gradually subside or am I on the road to becoming an invalid? Sorry to sound dramatic but this is very upsetting. Has anyone found anything to help with these sort of symptoms or does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

I had tendon issues while taking Cipro, and my doctor advised me to stop taking them. This was 8 months ago. I have the same side effects as you do, plus now cold hands and feet. I did a body detox and it helped, but the symptoms are so up and down from month to month. Doctors have no idea how the drugs react these days...they do not take the time to understand what these drugs do. I'm 29 years old, and was in perfect health before this!!

I know the feeling...it has been an 8-month rollercoaster for me. I thought I had Candida issues in my digestive tract (which I probably did), so i went to a Naturopath and he put me on a candida detox. It seemed to have helped, however, now I am experiencing the pains, cold hands and feet again. I'm 29 years old and have been healthy all my life!

I still experience most of the problems I wrote about on March 16th but they are not as severe, but definitely not gone. In the last few weeks I developed photosensitivity in my right eye which seems to be improving now as well. BUT four days ago I woke up to discover I suddenly lost 50% of the hearing in my left ear. I had gone to bed at 1:30am perfectly fine and got up five hours later with sudden hearing loss. I went to my ENT that afternoon and was told I had Sensorineural Sudden Hearing Loss - sudden nerve deafness. He prescribed steroids which I will take for several weeks. The ENT feels I will recover most of my hearing because we started treatment quickly. He wants to do an MRI of my brain to rule out serious causes but said most of the time the cause is not found. This is a relatively rare condition, 4000 cases per year in the US. I personally feel this problem is related to Cipro, along with everything else I have experienced. Coincidence? I don't think so. How is everyone else feeling? I hope better.

I am still experiencing most of the problems mentioned in my post on March 16th although not as severe for the most part. That is encouraging. However I recently developed photosensitivity in my right eye that lasted for several weeks. It was pretty bad. Then four days ago I woke up to discover that I lost 50% of the hearing in my left ear....overnight. My hearing was perfectly normal when I went to bed at 1:30am and I woke up 5 hours later to discover the hearing loss. I went to my ENT that afternoon. He did an exam and hearing test and told me I had Sensorineural Sudden Hearing Loss - sudden nerve deafness. He prescribed steroids and told me I should recover most of my hearing within several weeks. He wants to do an MRI to rule out serious causes but said most of the time the cause is unknown. This is a rare condition. I have never experienced any of these problems before I took Cipro. Coincidence, I personally do not think so. I might also mention I am a very normal, rational, sensible person and not a hypochondriac. What has happened since I took this drug is nothing short of bizarre. I was hopeful that I was on the road to recovery regarding my initial symptoms but since these new things cropped up I just don't know. How is everyone else feeling that commented here? Better I hope.
