Day 21 on Welbutrin XL 150 mg. - prescribed to help stop (light) smoking habit & for depression. I loved it - smoking urges not nearly as strong, more energy, very few emotional outbursts & general sense of calm, happiness & well-being. I haven't felt this good for 4 years. Have tried other meds in past but quit due to weight gain & sexual side-effects. Yesterday I developed HIVES. Damn. Saw nurse practitioner today. She wants me to switch to Lexapro. Told me to start w/ 1/2 a tab @ bedtime tonight. AAaaarrrgh! Anyone have any experience w/ Lexapro?

i took lexapro for 2 yrs and it was great to begin with, and then things just leveled out -- started gaining weight and alot 50 plus pounds !! Also getting off this medication was task--brain zaps and sweating, tired all the time, short temper !! also my joints in my knees and feet hurt so bad- do to this medication- i've read that it may take 18 months to get out of my system and im only on 4 months now !! i think i will try welbutrin to help with my depression and my weight !! hope this helps, but please do not take LEXAPRO !! -jeff

I took lexapro for 6 months. I felt very good in the beginning and in Feb. I got the flu, and strep throat . Tylenol was not working so I tried ibuprofen, that worked. Within a few days I was having diarrhea cramps, then I was experiencing rectal bleeding, vomiting. I went to er an they did not say why I was experiencing this problem. later learned that you cannot mix lexapro with Ibuprofin because it is a blood thinner. Four months after starting lexapro I decided to quit smoking, it helped me not care as much. I started to notice that my clothes were not fitting quite as well, just thought from quitting smoking even though I have exercised 5 days a week for 5yrs. it made no difference still put on weight .Being on Lexapro made me feel like sleeping all the time, never motivated to do anything. My excema got worse and so did my acne, little blackheads everywhere.Lexapro was fine in the very beginning , I didn't have much of an appetite but after about 6 to 8 wks my appetite kicked in with a vengeance. After almost 3 wks have only lost a little weight even though I work out 5 to 6 days a wk and it's not a sissy workout. beware of all the side effects.
