I've been on Topamax since Sept 2007 and the only side effects I have had were at the beginning were the tingling in the hands and feet when I was brining my dosage up. Soda tastes awful but I no longer drink it and that is a godsend after being a heavy drinker of it for years. I do find there are time when I can't find the right word to say, or I forget what I was doing, but I deal with it. I have lost 20 pounds since being on the medication. After being on it for 6 months the tingling is gone, I usually counteracted it by drinking plenty of water in the morning, that got rid of it. The drug has taken away the migraines, and regular headaches I have suffered from for years. It has also stabilized my moods and taken away my anxiety issues. I'm 36 and have never felt better. Topamax is definitely not for everyone. For those that are suffering, please do contact your doctors and try to get off the medication.

I feel very encouraged by your posting. I was in the ER this past Tuesday with a severe migraine headache. They gave me Percocet and sent me home (still had the migraine). Had a f/u appt with my MD Thursday and started Topamax. I am hopeful but am experiencing a bad metal taste that is made worse by anything I drink, soda is definitely out of the question! Did that happen to you? Feel groggy at this time, started on 25mg at bedtime for 1 week. Any suggestions? Thanks.

do you really think the tingling went away with drinking water or with time. i have been on it about 2 months now, and besides the tingling, i have a burning sensation on my tongue. i hope it does go away. the topamax is working for my migraines thou, but i do wish it the weight loss affect would kick in.

Everybody's body is different. My tingling in hands and feet did go away with the increased water intake just as my doctor said it would as it is a side effect of the medication. I never had a burning sensation on my tongue. Not everyone loses weight on the medication, it helps curb your appetite, that is what helps kick start the weight loss, since I stopped drinking the soda that helped the weight loss in me and I no longer crave sweets and carbs, jus healthy foods so that is where I've been successful in the weight loss. Just be thankful the medication is helpful with your headaches, that is what matters most, if you feel there are other complications definitely tell your doctor as this is a medication needs to be taken seriously when side effects are involved, not everyone responds well to it, my doctor said I'm one of the lucky ones she has had in her line of patients on it. I wish you luck.

I think, or at least I'm hoping, I may be one of the lucky one's like you, however, it seems that one of my major side effects is just being so tired. Do you experience that at all. Most of the other side effects, with the exception of a little tingling now and then seem to be going away (have been on Topamax for about 2 months). Just didn't know if you were tired and have found a way to remedy that.

I take my doseage at night as I find that within at least 45 mins to an hour I get really tired so I go right to sleep and get a really good nights sleep and feel really rested in the morning and feel good all day long. I've never had any other feelings of being lethargic from the medication..most likely due to to fact that I take my full doseage at night. I wish you luck.... Keep drinking alot of water at it is a medication that needs to be flushed from your system as at higher doses it may cause kidney stones... I've read. If you are one of the lucky ones like me you should have good luck with it as the months go by.....
