I am 38 years old and had Mirena put in on Nov. 26th. The first two months I felt pregnant and was nauseous all the time. That seemed to go away and now I can't stop gaining weight. I am gaining about a pound a week. It is all heading toward my stomach area and it's uncomfortable. I have also begun losing hair, having yeast infections, headaches, acne and pain during sex. I wish I found this site before and wonder if anyone has had similar symptoms and do they go away. I have scheduled to have it removed in 3 weeks. I am afraid to have it removed and feel like should I give it more time. Does anyone have any advice?

I had my procedure done Sept 19th and had it removed today. Our side effects are very similar. The only advice I can give you is to trust yourself. You know your body so just take time to reflect on the changes and ask yourself, is it worth it?
Best wishes,
AB

Everyone has their own experience, but I feel TONS better since having mine removed about a month ago. I had it for two years with no negative side effects, but in the last year I got tons of side effects. It started with weight gain (pound a week), tiredness, inability to focus, then my breasts got really sore (3 out of 4 weeks), I lost my sex drive and I started having bad lower back pain and was unbeleivably irritable. In my last two months before removal I started losing hair and I developed joint pain in my hands and wrists. As time went on, my symptoms kept intensifying.

Since removal I feel so much happier, healthier and younger. Sex drive is back, energy is back, back pain is gone, bloating comes and goes but the weight is starting to drop. I still have moody days, tired days, bloating days, sore boob days, but they are less frequent and less severe, and there are many days I feel great (which I haven't felt in many months). I've read it takes a few months to get back to normal. Good luck to you in making your decision!!!

ps I found the Mirena IUD side effect forum at www.curezone.com to have a lot of helpful posts too.

Thank you so much for your information. I am currently gaining about a pound week. I can't fit into any of my clothes and the loss of sex drive is terrible. I am having frequent back spasms and I didn't even think to relate another problem to mirena. The hair loss is starting to freak me out because it's obvious now. One wee to go and it will be out. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!
