My son was prescribed Strattera for ADD. 25 mg for three days, but when the dosage increased to 40 mgs, it was a nightmare. This was the worst medicine I have ever had my 12 yr old son take. He lost his appetite, had insomnia for several weeks and behaved like he was in a stupor when he was awake. I would NEVER EVER have him take this drug again and I do not recommend it to anyone else.

My son is 5 and a half. He has been on Strattera for eight months now. His doctor recently increased his dosage to 40 mgs per day. We tried it for 5 weeks and by the fifth week, he had stopped eating and was constipated for days. He was constantly doubled over in pain after taking his pill. He was up half the night and was tired all day. He was aggressive and hostile. I had enough and started to ween him off myself (His Doctor is away on vacation). We had some of his old 18mg tabs in the house and I gave him those each day for the past week. Did not give him any today. I can't seem to get an answer from anyone in the medical profession about how to ween him, so I took matters into my own hands. Anyway, symptoms much improved. But he is still feeling down about himself, constantly says he is a bad person and is still having stomach pains. He is finally eating though. We will get him assessed to see if he has liver damage. I would highly recommend doing intensive research before using this drug. I know what it's like to be a desperate parent with a child with ADHD - we'll take anything with faith at first. Not anymore. I will never give my son ADHD meds again. We will change his diet, see a natureopath and explore weight therapy. That's hoping there is no liver damage. Good luck to anyone going through this similar problem.

It seems fairly obvious that doctors realize that this medicine stratera does not work. In my home state CA, UCSF is doing trials on the drug right now, so that tells
me that the FDA knows their are serious side effects that
are harmful and the greedy drug companies are using
doctors and schools to hide the problem instead
of just taking this poison off the market.
I will pray for you and your son and all parents
who have tried anything to help a child with
ADD, ADHD, or other learning challenges.

Our kids probably don't even have ADHD, lots of times emotional upsets within the family are to blame for
behavoiral problems at school. Or worse,
the problems we see could some reaction
to all the chemicals, antibiotics and pesticides
that are in the air we breathe, the foods we eat
and the water we drink.
Please take your son off this harmful medicine right away.
He will grow out of some ADHD systems, but
this drug could be doing permanent damage
to your little boy.

I think every child reacts to a medication differently. The things you experienced are typical side effects and obviously this particular medication wasn't for him. My son had the same effects your's did from concerta but straterra works well for him.
Keep trying and you will eventually find the right one for him!

Strattera does not work, so why are doctors, teachers even other parents etc) continuing to ask us to keep trying drugs on our kids when a combination of
diet, exercise, adequate sleep actually work and are much cheaper and less risky than treatment with these powerful drugs. I recently saw a video called "Healing Cancer "and it talks in detail about how the Cancer industry (the American Medical Association and the American Cancer Society and the drug companies) have been lying to the american people about finding a cure for cancer for almost 100 yrs, then they successfully block any doctors who suggest moving to a plant based diet instead of taking drugs, undergoing chemotherapy and surgery should be used as a potential cure for cancer. Why would they do this you ask? Follow the money. We all want some
pill to cure us of bad habits like eating wrong, not exercizing and not getting enough rest, but no one pill can fix all these systemic problems, just ask the Bush Administration, cause if such a pill existed, they would have been selling it a Longs and Walgreens 24 hrs a day.
Hey Parents out there, please beware of posts that tell you to keep trying drug after
drug for ADHD and other problems with kids and learning and school. I know it's hard and we are all very desperate to help our kids do better in school, but these drugs do
not work and you may be damaging your child in the process. It's almost a year later, and my son is now 13 and he is doing much better in school as he has matured and we have eliminated emotional causes for his problems in school. He is active in sports, and when he eats lots of fruits and veggies and gets lots of sleep on the weekends, and he does better in school. His report card is my only proof of that the drugs did not work. While my proof is not scientific, it is real.
