My 6 year old daughter is taking topamax. Since the time she been taking it she has forgotten who she was and everyone around her, she went for an excellent student to not be able to do simple things like reading writing and math. She does even seem like the same child. She is very emotional and I just want my little girl back.

Why on earth is a 6 yr. old on Topomax? Have you talked with your Dr. about getting her off of it because of these side affects? I have taken it for several yrs. now along with Verepamil for migranes. I found out recently it can cause kidney stones! I have been having side pain and they said it wasn't stones. Am wondering though if diagnosis is wrong. I would get her to a different Dr. if this on refuses to do something about it. Don't give up there is always hope that someone out there will listen to you! In my prayers!

I don't know what type of doctor would put a child on this drug. The symptoms you listed are a definite side effect for Topamax. Do not just stop the drug though, your child will need to be tapered off it. I would highly recommend taking your child to another pediatrician as soon as possible and getting your child off topamax and find some other medication for whatever the topamax is for. I really think this is a very dangerous drug for some people and I'm an ICU RN and believe in medications for most things. I really don't think most physicians understand how this drug affects some people.
