I have been crying for almost 24 hours now. I cannot believe what I am reading and hearing about Singulair. My son has been to hell and back again and again. I cannot say for sure the Singulair is the culprit. But after reading all of the other stories on this website, I am convinced it is a strong possibility. My son is 11 years old. He has severe allergies and asthma. He takes many, many medications for this including Singulair. He as been on Singulair for about 8 years now (my best guess because he has been on it for sooooo long.) My son was diagnosed with ADHD in pre-school. He has taken many medications for the ADHD, but none have ever done any good at all. We thought some of the medications even made things worse. Now, I'm not so sure. After exhausting all the ADHD medications, our pediatrician sent my son to a psychiatrist and a counselor. The psychiatrist put him on 2 different antipsychotic medications. Again, neither one did any good and seemed to make matters worse. The psychiatrist sent my son to a psychologist to be tested for Asperger's. For those of you who don't know Asperger's is a high functioning form of autism. The psychologist ruled out Asperger's by diagnosed ADHD and Anxiety Disorder. He did not prescribe any medication. For some unknown reason, I've only given my son the Singulair off and on for the last year. My son had the best year in school ever. However, his pediatrician was still not satisfied. He sent him to see another psychiatrist at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. We were told he is believed to have more than one disability. He is believed to have ADHD, Aspergers, Teurettes and a possible 4th medical problem that has not yet come to light. We are scheduled to see a neurologist at Children's Hospital on the 15th of April to rule out any medical reasons for his tics. We see the psychiatrist again on the 18th of April. I am so tormented by this recent news. Has all of these problems been caused from him taking the Singulair for so long? Although he has had his best year in school yet, he still has a lot of problems. Are the side effects of the Singulair permanent. The other side of the coin is this: It is also very scary to watch my son not be able to breath. Asthma can also be life threatening. What is a parent supposed to do. Also, I now don't know whether to keep these appointments that are coming up. I hate so much to put him through more. He has endured enough doctors and tests to last him a lifetime. However, what if it is not the Singulair and there is help out there for him that I am not aware of. Please if anyone else has had a similar experiences e-mail me. I would love to hear from you. God Bless everyone who has been through this kind of hell.

I've been blown away also. My son is 10 years old and was originally diagnosed with RAD (Reactive Airway Disease) when he was about 3 and has had allergy and mild asthma issues since. When he was 5 he was put on Singulair, Nasonex, and Zyrtek. My son has always been a beautifully happy child, but the last few years have been extremely emotional for him. He gets depressed, he's extremely hard on himself and is ultra-sensitive and scared about everything. He has never been frightened and was a baby/kid that loved his room and always slept really well. Now I think that I understand why he’s been afraid to sleep in his room alone. Ever since he's been on Singulair he complains and complains of bad dreams. I can't believe that I'm hearing that he's been taking this medication like clock-work for 5 years and all of his problems may be related to this. His allergies are not severe and nor has his asthma ever been - but I was told constantly that he needs this medication. This is unbelievable - I've stopped giving Singulair to him and have made an appointment with a new allergist.

My daughter is 10 and has been on singulair for about 7 years. We have been experiencing for a lot of those years mood swings, anger and yelling, tantrums. I sometimes think, who is this child? We recently saw a Doctor on Benny Hinn ministries that has been talking about ADHD and how our children are over medicated. His name is Ted Broer, if you go to: www.bennyhinn.org, you can see the show, I am going to buy his books and start eating organic foods and have called my doctor today to talk about getting my daughter off singulair. Please I urge you to go to the Benny Hinn Website and watch the shows, or go to Ted broer's website as well. healthmasters.com. It is worth the time to help your son.
God Bless, we will keep your son and you family in prayer.

I have been reading these posts all day long and have been in tears several times over reading parents' stories that duplicate my own. My son was born with lung problems and when he was three was put on Singulair. He started having night terrors, some OCD over hand washing and became fearful and angry. He started talking about how he wished he could just go to heaven and how that hurt! For the past several years, he has complained of his legs(drs. said growing pains) his stomach(reflux or ulcers). I took him to physcolgists, physiciatrists and therapists who put him through all kinds of testing. The poor kid thought he was crazy but everyone else did not find anything just that he was borderline adhd, borderline autistic. Down through the years he has been seen by different people and they all say he is just very intelligent and sensitive to his condition, this past year I told his therapist I wondered if it were the Singulair and they thought it might contribute but when I tried to pull him off of it, he quit sleeping. Well, he comes off tonight, I hope it doesn't take long to get out of his system but he was on Xolair for a few weeks and they said that would stay in his system for upto 6 months. My youngest was put on it but after 2 doses he quit sleeping and eating and I took him right off. It took days for him to get semi-normal but his personality had changed to more angry, aggressive, nervous and he has never completely become the child he was. He was 3 at the time. My oldest that started in 2000 was three and just turned 11. I did talk to a lawyer today because I feel Merck has stolen my firstborn's childhood and they should have to pay for that. Rose

My eight year old was on Singular for about 3-4 years striaght. i have not been good about it in the last two years. But his allergies and ashtma are much more manageble now. So i'm not sure either because my son and his twin sister who has never taken any meds ever both have learning disabilities but she has never been on any medicines while my son is one an ADHD med and has been to all kinds of Doctors and ive been told they both have ODD. He has the ADHD. But my son also gets very angry and has horrible outburst that i can't control. They get horrible. They seem to be the same as they were prior to any med for ADHD and i don't believe they are from the singular becasue he has always been on the lowest dosage possible in chew form 4mg or 5mg. Does it have a built up effect in his system i don't know but before he took it he would get mad at two years old and break windows so Im not convinced it is the Singular. Now that i have read your concerns I'm going to ask his Doctor to do a blood test and see as well as take him off totally just in case because his is under control( allergies, with Benadryl and his Albuterol) See if it remains in the system. I'm actually still searching around to find out what i can do to assist my son with his anger because it is tirintg for him ,me and his siblings when he acts out and then can't remeber why it even started. Good luck and let us know how you make out. Mel
