your story sounds so much like mine about my 7 yr old son. (i posted our story on 3/29...jlamom) we took hm off this weekend, last dose was fri night. as i type he is in bed, not going to school for stomach pains. just this morning told me he is tired of not feeling like himself and being mad all the time and he doesn't know why. i would never "plant" these thougths in his head. why would a 7 yr old previously very happy child feel this way??? we are going to the docs today.... hope things improve for all of us as these kids get of this horrible drug.
Are you taking your kids to an allergist? The nasal steroid sprays work well for the allergies. I have one son on Nasacort and one on Rhinocort. Because they are localized they have few side effects. For the asthma, an inhaled steroid might be a good alternative. The thing that has helped my asthmatic son the most are the allergy shots. He is already immune to several of his previous triggers like dogs and cats. He almost never takes an antihistamine but when he does I use Clarinex or a short term OTC like benadryl. Hope this is helpful! By the way, we are off of Singulair due to mood swings, leg cramps, stomach pain, and suicidal thoughts.
Hi, my son's ENT just told me that there were some recent isolated incidents of Singulair causing suicidal tendencies and therefore you should exercise caution in taking it. While, very rare, it does sound like it can cause depressive disorders in some people. I would stop the medication if your child has experienced these symptoms and seek alternative treatments.
